Don't mess with the nametags
Seriously. Just live with how it is now. We all know the BF2 engine is limited and there's only so much you can do, but the benefits of having 100 players and 8 man squads far outweigh the downside of 36 people not having a nametag. If you're playing tactically this shouldn't even be an issue, identify by uniform before you shoot or use your damn map.
Also, if the nametags are removed entirely then you run the risk of not being able to easily identify the SL. I know that can happen now anyways, but players need to start adjusting and live with the fact that it won't be perfect. Myself and I'm sure plenty of others would rather not go back to 64 players and it seems that's the only way to solve it.

Re: Don't mess with the nametags
I'd much prefer if they were removed entirely. The fact that some people won't have them anyway creates that element of uncertainty, and has caused so many friendly fire incidents. If you need to identify someone in your squad, you can use the map and local mumble. People rely not on the map, but name tags too much already to find out if they're gonna hit a friendly or not. As you said, we should identify by uniform and not some magical floating text.

True. And after thinking about it more, if there were no nametags then people wouldn't actually realize nametags are bugged haha.

What exactly is the benefits of 100 players? Other than some maps being way too crowded and lagging the hell out of everything

How about making it an option to turn on/off nametags for friendly players? >.>

Anyway, I'm still of the opinion that they should be removed unless a solution can be found.

No way! Nope nope nope nope. It's a hell for a medic to play without nametags, you don't really know who you need to heal, it's impossible to identify one player from another(especially when you play with random people), so the name tags absolutely SHOULD stay even if not everyone will get them. Just try to play as a medic when half of your squad doesn't have a name tag and you will understand that it only will get worse if we remove all the nametags. So no guys, just NO.Anyway, I'm still of the opinion that they should be removed unless a solution can be found.

The missing information on who did call for a medic or ask for ammunition is so far the only downside I've experienced.Unhealed wrote:No way! Nope nope nope nope. On the other hand with the implemented mumble => local speech you can quite easily identify your targets [edit: as in "who called for medic"].
In case the nametags cannot be made available for all players I'm absolutely for a solution to disable them for all.
And even if it is possible to give the nametags to all players, it might still be worth a consideration to remove them.

Then again, the problem with calling a medic and the medic not being sure who needs it is even more realistic when in downed state... its already too much that casualties can talk.

Re: Don't mess with the nametags
It's maybe quite easily for some but not for me, I use integrated sound card and 10$ headphones, so it's kinda hard to understand who exactly of these four guys(and you never played with any of those guys btw) behind you needs a medic, since none of them have a nametag. Yeah, sooner or later you will find the guy but it wastes the precious time, so having atleast partially enabled nametags is the lesser evil. If we can have a blood on a wounded guy or a unique face for everyone - I wouldn't mind it, but right now removing the nametags will not make the game more realistic, it will only make it frustratingly difficult. You can't just make it like in real life when some of the other game aspects are not realistic at all(people having the same faces etc.)JeffCole wrote:local speech you can quite easily identify your targets [edit: as in "who called for medic"].

Re: Don't mess with the nametags
Removing the name tags would force people to communicate and organize.
You could still identify squadmembers by their kit geometries most of the time. Also you have them as icons on the map. You can talk in mumble etc.
Having only a few people with name tags as it is now is just weird and more confusing than helpful.
Not having name tags should be a tested in a future version to see if it works.

Well I don't mind having a test to see how it's gonna work out. Sure it kinda helps the teamwork, but in games like ARMA where people are playing without nametags, all players have unique faces and if someone is injured you can see a blood on him, so you don't have to guess which one of these healthy looking, and almost exactly same looking people is the injured guy.

Re: Don't mess with the nametags
Keep the name tags.
At least 4 or so members of your squad will always have name tags, so it helps your squad to stay together and not end up with some random people, etc. Not everyone gets them but it's better than nothing. Just get used to the kit geos/camo.

Why dont they remove the name tags but keep them for Squad leaders and commander so there is a vague idea about your teams locations.

Remove name tags! Its not that hard to see wether a guy is friend or foe since the enemies arent allowed to pick up friendly kits. Its no problem for me at all, so just take em away. MAy be we should test what is gonna happen with the squads that have to identify each other, but i guess if you would keep squadleaders tags it would be fine.

Re: Don't mess with the nametags
I also think it should be tried out with no name tags. People worry to much that it will be a TK nightmare but we already have that with half tagged half "bugged".
with 100p servers it confuse players... (especially new players) that some have tags and some don't. If tags are removed I don't see why people would start killing each-other more.
I wonder if it technically possible to remove the tags but keep the option when someone "call" for medic that the red cross still shows up though.... that way I don't see how it would be any harder for medics to find there patient.
Before it is tested on a live 100p server it's hard to say how it will play out. To leave a "bug" untouched is a thorn in my eye though.

New Patch is out and now nametags only shown when you point at someone (of course not all nametags cause its not hardcoded). I think thats a good compromiss.

Oh really? That sounds nice! I hope this is the case for all of the 100 players? If so: Perfect. Granted.ghostfool84 wrote:New Patch is out and now nametags only shown when you point at someone (of course not all nametags cause its not hardcoded). I think thats a good compromiss.
