I ported the V22 into an "edit" version of PR .98 and have been practicing a lot with it. Finally figured the HUD out thanks to a little .txt file I found in there
First off, thank you thank you thank you for bringing this awesome aircraft to PR, I feel like I'm a terminator in 2050 hunting for humans... Also going through the code, I have high hopes for the "Guardian" version.. gatling and 30mm, yummy yummy ;P
It's taken down relatively easy, especially when transitioning. Small arms damage seems to be alright but a quick burst from the BTR = insta death.
Hover mode is very stable as long as you don't lean to either side too much. My only complaint in this area is the buffer time between letting off vertical thrust and the plane settling. This is probably to aid in transitioning, but can be rather annoying otherwise.
Transition time seems right on, as IRL it takes around 12 seconds, I counted around 10 seconds. It takes a lot of getting used to in order not to overshoot the landing. "Feathering" between hover and forward is the only way to control it.
Takeoff is my biggest concern. IRL, the Osprey transitions seamlessly from hover to plane mode without having to nose up, loose altitude, or decrease speed. In game, all of this happens. In order to take off without loosing altitude, you have to use that "buffer" while transitioning from "s" to "w" and nose up quite a lot in order to not dip down like the harrier, while also loosing airspeed. Add a little rudder action and you will be in the ground.
I think a solution would be to allow 20-30 degrees of tilt in either direction while in hover mode, depending on how much pitch is added and the airspeed you have achieved. Then the forward speed for hover mode would be increased to offset it's current sluggishness and the plane wouldn't loose altitude and "pause" as bad when transitioning. I also say tilt in the opposite direction as IRL Opsrey nacelles can tilt backwards to give opposite thrust for flying backwards or reducing forward speed.
Also, IRL Osprey suffer from disk loading due to the folded size restrictions by USMC, I know the effects are possible in BF2 and it would look super cool to have corkscrew vertices trailing off the rotors...
Other than that I'm super excited for 1.0 when I will dedicate a squad to securing a good LZ and building a super fob to defend that LZ...Thanks again for this awesome addition to PR!
