Steam BF2, CTD Fest

Post by Pronck »

So I am helping my nephew with installing BF2 and PR, he bought BF2 trough steam. After installing it it is one big CTD fest. I cannot run it in windowed mod for some reason even if I try trough steam, I cannot even edit it in the shortcut nor do I have a tab called compatibility.

The two issues so far;

CTD Without warnings/errors when done loading (BF2 Vanilla)
CTD Without warnings/errors when selecting audio options (BF2 Vanilla)

This are the specs of his computer;

Win7 64bit
GT 640 1GB DDR3
AMD Athlon II X4 631 Quad Processor 2.60Ghz
8GB RAM DDR3
Eminent PCI Soundcard 7.1 with Realtek Drivers.

It makes it impossible to even check if he has good framerates.

The things I tried so far;

Disabling in-game Steam overlay
Shutting down Realtek Sound Driver in Taskmanager
Trying to run in windowed mode, trough steam nothing happened, I cannot edit the shortcut for some reason. (Failed due to Steam being a b*tch).

Please help us.

Go directly to the steamapps directory,
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\battlefield 2\
(Or where you installed it)
find BF2.exe
right click->Properties->adjust to run as admin, add the windowed mode shortcut

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +restart +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1280 +szy 720
Dont just copy paste this, but adjust to your install location. Make sure you don't omit quotation marks or it wont work.

Click Apply.
Click on the BF2.exe to start BF2.

If you start in windowed mode and it CTDs, a Message will pop up telling you the problem. Take a screenshot or write this down and post it to this thread.

Let us know what happens.

FYI, I've never heard of Eminent soundcards, if you continue to get weird CTDs, consider disabling the soundcard in Device Manager, rebooting, and trying to start BF2 again.
