PR promotional video - my cinematic story idea
Alright I have some updated thoughts and would like to attempt some initiative on the topic of these PR promotional videos. The three videos.. one being cinematic.. the other being short and "trailer like" and the third being more of a "feature rundown"..... this is my idea for the cinematic megamovie.
I discussed the possibility of this with a member of the dev team and it is possible that we may be able to have created, for this promotional video, a custom map (Pre-existing but changed for the video) ala.. more jets, more blackhawks, etc. I have been asked to come up with a list of maps, changes, and a deadline and they'll see what can be done.
With that in mind, this is the initial idea I had which I would like to use as the "cinematic" video to promote PR.
The video opens with a squad of 6 special forces troops parachuting down over albasra in all within close range of each other BELOW THEM is a car with two insurgent forces out doing a local patrol... we show a close-up of the squad-leader pull out his pistol and aim down at them.. taking out each of them with one tap in the head... following, they land one by one outside of the city near the water. The squad-leader runs up and dives onto a hill and looks through the binocs to scan the area. All clear, the squad comes out of the cover and moves in an open formation into the city. Tactical movement is shown here, and they're using the silenced pistols to take out a few guys by surprise and as to not alert the beehive like city of their presence.
They arrive at their target, a radar station. The seals place SLAMS on 4 (FOUR!!) radar stations within the city and take off like bats out of hell to their extract. Once the radar stations are blown we cut to the airfield where squads of US troops are rushing out to their vehicles (blackhawks, LBs, and gun-ships all take off together [AND IN FORMATION] to go strike the city) at the same time (a convoy of US vehicles depart the base as well) and trek down through to the city. They are the second wave.
THE MISSION OF THE DAY is to capture an insurgency leader (VIP) within the city. They are to strike quickly and arrest the leader before he has the ability to escape, while maximizing damage to local insurgent forces and minimizing civilian casualties. The mission is taking place during mid-afternoon while the leader has been spotted at the local mosque.
The little-birds touch down on the streets and the blackhawks drop over two nearby roofs which let off their loads onto the roofs. They meet VERY heavy resistance and an epic battle begins.
RPGs going everywhere, insurgent forces are in really great number.. everything is nuts... but the US squads are pushing up well. The leader and his bodyguards rush out the back of the mosque to get into a convoy of 3 VIP suburbans and a couple gun-trucks. By this time the convoy has come around the other side of the city to bookend the operation and they cut off the insurgency leader trying to flee.. the TOW mounted humvie takes out the leading gun-truck as they're trying to fire their 50-cal on them.. and so the leading suburban takes a drastic turn followed by the other two to change direction and head around the US convoy.. but they split up... and not before the convoy called in to the gun-ships who are now on route to take out the weaponized vehicles and shut down the transports.
Two cobras flying close by each other roll up to the fleeing insurgents and do a flyby together.. taking out the weaponized vehicles with the rockets... the insurgent leaders are almost to the palace where he has a much heavier security force..... but two little-birds loaded up with US runs along side of it.. flying steady along it's side.. one of the men on the skirts aims up.. and shoots the driver... so the vehicle slows down to a stop.. the birds land and the US troops surround the car and capture the first leader... but because the insurgents convoy split up.. the other leader's suburban made it to the palace where the heavier security forces are located.
The US troops regroup and load up the convoy and head to the palace. The convoy is attacked a few times while in route by small patches of insurgents who unsuccessfully attempt to foil the convoy's move to the palace. IEDs are used.. a hummer is destroyed on the way but for the most part the convoy comes in untouched. Until they get close to the palace where they meet their heaviest challenge.... the heavily armed security forces. This is where everything goes down.. and a black hawk gets shot by an RPG... looses control and goes down way outside the city in the middle of the dessert. While the main unit attempts to breakdown the palace forces and retrieve the leader, the seals are then rerouted from their extraction to destroy the blackhawks remains and rescue the downed crew that may or may not still be alive.
An intense battle at the palace goes down and the US get in to get the leader and the Seals get pinned down by a heavily armed patrol that saw the bird go down... so they call in an air-strike... we show two f-18s flying... they're nearby so they get called in and they make a sudden bank.... then we cut back to the seals laying down heavy suppressing fire to keep the insurgents back away from the wreck... but they're keeping the seals pressed down as well... and then we cut back to the f18s rolling in low on the deck flying over the seals.. turning around and coming back with their ordinance.. both strafe by and take out the insurgents minus 1.. who after surviving that tries to run away and gets taken out by a well aimed shot from one of the seals
the inf clears out after capturing the leader and then we cut to a US carrier where.. 2 A-10s take off.... then as the convoy is driving away just behind them two A-10s come in and essentially LEVEL the palace behind them. (Quite a closing shot)
and finally.. we end with them all getting extracted, and everyone returning to base... planes landing, etc.

Sounds great, would really look nice. My only belly ache is that every movie i have seen (a limited amount i must add) has been US kicking ***, can we not have one where the US has to use all of its vehicle to actually retreat because the insurgents are always poping out the windows with RPG's........
Basically the US go into a small town with a semi-small force in LB's and BH's they land, unload everything seems fine then all hell breaks loose as the insurgents pop up from eveyrwhere with an ambush and push the USMC back into the desert where they get LB's out with thier wounded and so on......
Just to kind of get the focuse back off the US being teh pwnage

Sounds great, I am willing to adapt al basrah for you needs if you give me a list of things you want.
Although there are plenty of vehicles there already, 2 cobras, 2 littlebirds, and A10, APC's, hummers.
btw spec ops doesnt have a silenced pistol, but if you want to set an ambush with clacker fired Claymores that would be good to show off that part of the mod.
You should all be in a TS channel that could be arranged for you, and for signups, I stongly advise only put yourself forward if you are willing to do exatcly as 'the director' says and be prepared to have to wait around a little while they do 'scenes' without you.
Please get this done!
Also I suggest work out what you need, do signups like:
specs ops squad x4:
name
name
name
name
insurgents patrols x10
name...etc
It would hlep you organise it better and make a really proffesional, promotional movie that is the best thing you, as a community member can do to help the devs with the mod.

Sounds like Black Hawk Down.
The troops had to literally RUN out of there because they were so pressed that the US wouldn't send any aircraft in to extract them, risking that another bird would be shot down.
and yes.. I'm down to do multiple movies but for the sake of promoting the videogame I'm going to stick with statistics here and run with the fact that a majority of people (US gamers) want to see the US kick everyone's *** and win. Good triumphs over evil. The classic story.
The point is to make something so extraordinary that looks like it's a movie... and yes, movies go with good over evil usually. I just want to make something that people will watch and go "holy shit that looked just like the movies"
...because that's what makes games so attractive.
which is nice because people will see this video, and then the other videos and realize that "wow.. that kind of realistic gameplay CAN be cool" because they watched a video full of the features which demonstrates everything that's different/realistic and has supporting points but then also that it was so cool watching everything play out.. the way it would if you had a whole team of serious teamwork.

Yes actually I was hoping to get input on areas of the game that I didn't really show off. Claymores, the ability to ambush and.. GIHAD CARS!
I'll write those in for sure.
Can you add me to xfire and shoot me a message? I have a question for you that I'm sure you're not allowed to publically answer about forthcoming releases and I don't want to put you on the spot in the forum.. plus I'd like to talk to you about what is and isn't possible with Basra.

That's what I meant when I said gunships.
My ideal insertion for the rangers involves 3 littleships, 2 gunships, 2 cobras, and 2 blackhawks.
The convoy will be 4 50cal mount hums, 2 tow hum, 2 flatbed hums, and an APC
Airsupport involves 2 A-10s and 2 F-18s.
The F-18s are used for the air support strike and the A-10s are used for the Planned air strike mission.
That's my vehicle wishlist.
The differnece is that support based airstrikes are usually given to wing teams that are in the area already.. if a pressed unit calls in airsupport they're not going to launch fresh birds just for them unless they have time.. if the unit doesn't have time and needs the support really bad... they send in birds that are already up in the closest area... in most cases it's fighter jets.... there'd be no way that an A-10 would be sent in for a air/ground support mission.
Those things are used to destroy large areas and are not intended to be surgical strikers.

Here's what I'm going to need. Here's how I'm going to break it down.
I'm going to work out a shot list. This will be a list of actions and scenes that need to be performed for me to be able to go into battlerecorder and get all the angles I need and recordings I need to edit/do this properly.
I'll breakdown the recording process and what scenes we'll do when I'm there but I will need people to sign up for the following.
SpecOps - These people have to be extremely familar with small group and TACTICAL movement.
Pilots - I'm not kidding when I say that you better be the best there is. I'm going to need extremely good pilots to fly TOGETHER and in tight formations.. tight enough to look real.. especially if you're in the jets.
Numbers
6 Seals
SpecOps Squad Leader
SpecOps 2
SpecOps 3
SpecOps 4
SpecOps 5
SpecOps 6
9 Pilots
Littlebird 1 (fully loaded)
Littlebird 2 (fully loaded)
Littlebird 3 (fully loaded)
Gunship 1
Gunship 2
Blackhawk 1 (fully loaded)
Blackhawk 2 (fully loaded)
Cobra 1
Cobra 2
S.O.P
We'll use a designated TeamSpeak server for communication which will help with timing things out and doing the precise actions as needed for the video's battlerecorder file.
For the insertion scenes I will most likely need everyone available to switch to the US team. We will constantly be switching people from one team to another to accomidate for certain scenes which may show more of one team than the other. For instance there won't be a scene where the Seals and all 4 squads of the Rangers are visible at once so whoever plays the Seals can switch over and be part of the rangers duing other scenes.
No one will be assigned specifically to one thing only. I really need multifacited people who are willing to stick around and make this happen.
SCHEDULE
I would ideally like to get this done this weekend.
but in order for our ideal situation to happen my schedule for this is open to change.. because I really want to get the added vehicles and the Devs might need more time.. they're busy as is.
Either way.. a weekend is best.. this one or next weekend... whatever works best. It would take place during the mid-afternoon on Saturday or Sunday. Whichever works out best for the majority of people.
Everyone who is participting will be required to download and instal a special map provided by our wonderful Dev Team which will also be running on a locked server. This will be the modified AlBasra map which has the additional vehicles included. You will need to get the map in order to join the server.
I will post server, TS, and password information on the forums prior to filming so that everyone who wants to be involved can get involved.
For this to work it's BEST we'll need to fill a 64 person server... or at least close to it. The more, the merrier.
I ask that anyone who comes into the server please be mature and patient. DO NOT TEAMKILL because the teamkill message shows up in the battlerecorder playback.. and I don't want "so and so teamkills so and so" during our only really good take of an important scene.
but otherwise.. it should be an awesome experience and a ton of good fun.
Anything that I haven't covered here will pretty much be explained in TS during the filming.. specific actions, ways to move, etc... things I want and things I don't want.. all of that will be covered on a scene by scene basis.. and any questions answered as well.

Yes I had this in mind for the main attacking force going after the palace.. there are tanks to be disabled by US antitank kits and helos to be shot down by insurgent forces... the blackhawk would be a prime example as it will lose control and SPIN off into the distance while smoking'[R-CON wrote:Duckitt']Perhaps have a helo get hit and go out of control? And a tank be disabled?
The main road that the convoy will be running in on will be the main two-way road just WEST of the mosque walls. the road runs north/south.
I'm going to use the map to draw a "plan of action" map. It will show the route in which people will travel. Where scenes will take place, etc.

My idea of the intense palace battle involves US apcs going at insurgent tanks.. infantry DIVING out of the way of shells.. LMGs in guardtowers laying down rain of fire.. grenades all over the place.. D-Day style but modern. People ducking behind the vehicles.. 50cals pouring out shells.. everything.. people dying left and right.. right in the midst of people advancing.. people taking cover behind dunes as the sand is flying in their faces from all the bullets falling just short of their heads and hitting the ve ry dunes they take safety in.. smoke/tanks/all in your face/action packed awesomeness.. cobras flying by doing lines of rocketfire... all while antiair turrets are trying to knock them out of the sky.. all of it.
The idea for the heavy opposition after the insertion is that the insurgents didn't know that they were coming.. so the US gets in safely but now they've stirred up the nest because people know they're there.. the US have to basically defend themselves from every direction because the enemy really come out of the woodwork.. guys climb onto roofs... people firing RPGs out of windows at them.. guys running around the corners doing pop shot/spreynpreys.. a US soldier getting wounded and when he falls two guys cover his fallen body while a medic revives him and fixes him up

YES.. how could I forget to type this... I had an idea where an insurgent sniper lines up his scope on a US soldier but just before he pulls the trigger... he gets shot and then the camera rushes accross the city to a different rooftop with a sniper/spotter team. Hopefully the sniper rifles can be switched to the suppressed sniper... show that one off. Then it cuts back to the insurgent sniper's deadbody falling down to the deck below.. much to the surprise of a US soldier undernieth who then looks up quickly like "holy shit!"'[R-CON wrote:dbzao']Another idea is to have a little scene with a sniper and a spotter, something no vBF2 player heard about.![]()
we can definitely show off some sniper/spotters in the battle for the palace.
AND
To make sure that we illustrate the principle that in project reality one shot can/will produce one kill.. In any room clearing scenes I'm going to illustrate that a special ops guy can turn a corner and take out 3 people with 3 shots if he has the swift aim.
