tracers, yay or nay?

Post by jackal22 »

its just that when ever i find a good spot i can only get off so many shots until i shoot a tracer and some schmuck sees it and kills me. on city maps its especially a pain.

shouldnt it be limited to night maps only? and support kits where your going to be spraying anyway. or please make an option to turn them off. even if its a pick up kit.

and could someone tell me how to use the polls on this board? i still cant figure it out.

Did you miss the giant thread on this topic? It's still alive somewhere I'm sure.

make a "fire-direction" class with tracers and leave every other class (except support) out of it, it gives away your position

nay to tracers, I don't like them.
But here is something you can try, I do this sometimes, usually on open maps. You know when the tracer is coming. So shoot the enemy with normal rounds, and then when you know the next round will be a tracer you shoot it to the ground infront/behind you, so that the enemy doesn't see it. Then again you can shoot normal bullets. Sure it's a pretty slow strategy, and won't allow you to continuously fire at the target, but at least they don't see the tracers.

Wow, that would be a serious pain in the arse to have to do that.

You need the delayed fuse tracer and the tracer is less visible if it is fired right at you and less like a beam in general it is a bright burning dot that causes some optical illusions relative to the viewers position. I'm sure it would be hard to model perfectly I had no problem with the current set up.

If possible they could delay the tracer effect until the bullet is further away and reduce the brightness, but I would say leave it if that causes more lag or other problems.

Edit: Tried to find example this will have to do for now

I think the tracers are fine... but they need to be toned down, and sniper rifles should NOT have tracers.

That's all fine and well, but has anyone talked about the tracers yet??

yep, it's pain in the *** but keeps me from being detected. Though it only works on big open maps, since on urban maps you rarely have the time to do that, and not many people will see them anyway because of the buildings.

we love tracers... (well perhaps pistol ammo shouldn't include it), but hey.. it makes things harder for the lone wolf camper to have tracers, and allows squads to direct fire, by useing the (MICROPHONE) ;) yes.. voip.. "fire on my tracer, enemy machine gun top floor construction site " etc. etc.

So join a squad, learn how RL units use tracers and why, and why you put tracers in at the end of each magazine, then come back and think again.

why didn't Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint (on hard difficulty) and America's Army put tracers in their assault rifles/carbines then?

WORD!!

Thats the way you do it, just locate enemy, fire on there possition and tell the rest of your squad to fire on your tracer.
"Please dont move while Im shooting at you."

A big problem is that players still haven't invested in the idea of supressive fire. They would rather try and remain hidden to take that one kill shot rather than empty 2 mags on a guys position to mark it for their squad and to let them manuver in on the guy,

see but the whole point to suppression fire is so that the rest of your squad or another squad can advance to contact and take out the enemy while his head is down by the suppressing fire, but how can 2 squads talk to eachother...they cant
and to get a squad that would actually have the intelligence to do such a thing would be mind blowing but i doubt you will ever see it
also depending how well the opposing team is put together usually when we do advance to contact it should be 4 of us to 1 of them...we all know that never happens in the game
