Helicopter Flip problem

Post by Trimisis »

Hello everybody, First of all I KNOW YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE HELICOPTER TO WARM UP! now that that's out of the way, I have a problem. i'm relatively new to PR and have tried out flying. I was a miserable failure. The problem is that whenever i try to take off a helicopter it either flips completely over if i go >5% throttle or slides around thirty to forty feet side to side if i go <5% throttle. It pretty much makes it impossible to even get off the ground. Im using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick and it works fine for other games. I have tried both on co-op and an empty server to see if it was just a problem for co-op modes but it happens either way
So, does anybody have any solutions?

Welcome to PR.

My solution was to stop flying on public servers. :P

Plenty of people have had this problem I hope someone can chime in with the solution.

Just to be sure. Wait a MINIMUM of 30 seconds. The ideal warmup time is one full minute. When you get in, set a timer.

Well you can begin by testing if it's just the way your joystick is configured.

First try to take off using your mouse and keyboard to fly. If that works, then try again with your joystick. It could be a configuration problem with the joystick. I'm able to fly with my Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas.X with no problems (personally prefer mouse and keyboard with helicopters though).

It could be that PR is somehow recognizing your roll axis incorrectly. Have you double checked all configurations?

yeah, i'm pretty sure i have the axes set up correctly when on the ground it wiggles around properly i'll see if taking off with keyboard/mouse will fix it.

So, I tried flying keyboard/mouse and it worked fine. but as soon as i plugged in my joystick and throttled up I had an uncontrollable pitch forward and crash. :(

Maybe it's somehow recognizing your throttle as both the pitch and throttle in game?

Or the joystick isn't calibrated.

Another thing you could try. Use W to increase throttle while using the joystick for flight but not throttle.

OOOOHHHH, I see! in PR you have to tap the throttle!
I had the throttle on my joystick and I just shoved it up to 100% Putting the throttle to a key on the keyboard completely fixed my problem THANK YOU!

This is sort of a similar problem.
Until last week, I've been able to fly just fine using my old MS Sidewinder joystick. Now when I try to fly a helo, the pitch and roll axis are reversed. The throttle and steering axis are working correctly though.
The stick is calibrated correctly in Windows (7). Any suggestions?
