ALt tab in BF2

Note: this is NOT related to crashing because not having the 1.51 alt tab fix. this is something different.

I remember a dev helped a friend of mine when he had a similar problem (i think it was AD).

But whenever i alt tab and then come back in. at least for what i tried in BF2 vanilla, when i alt tab back in my cross hair and weapon selection popup are gone. I know somehow this affected my friend when he was playing PR but i dont remember how. I remember it was something simple and easy to fix but i just cant figure it out.
