Download corrupted/ PART files

Hi there.

I've been trying to download PR 1.0 for quite a while now. Due to the long time it takes to download (over 6 hours most of the time) I often leave it downloading over the weekend and come back after school.

After several attempts, with the file either being not completely downloaded, and the file corrupted, I disabled my AV software and downloaded again.


It seemed to cause trouble when downloading overnight, so I let it download during the day.


Now I have two PART files in my downloads folder, but not in a .zip. the files have the same name (except for the '1' added to the other). One file is 3.9 GB and the other is 4.95 GB.


I downloaded directly using Firefox. No special programs or anything. Windows XP x86 (Which worked fine prior to this download issue).

Any suggestions that would get me up and running?

Can you post the exact location where you downloaded these from? i.e. from GamersHell, ModDB, GamerMonkey, etc?

More often than not a file ending in .PART is a partially downloaded file, not usable in any form.
And PR doesn't use any type of .PART file , so this is somehow related to your bittorrent client or Firefox browser download manager.

Do you use a browser download manager?

I think it was from GamersHell, though I don't recall exactly.

I did not use any special program to download, just Firefox (standard download)

It looks like it came from dbolical, so I'm assuming it was from ModDB

OK.

You have two separate attempts to download the file. Let's see if you can use the "RESUME DOWNLOAD" function in Firefox to continue downloading the 4.95GB file.

1. Open Firefox
2. Open the Downloads window ( Control-J )

You should be looking at this window but with your two partial downloads:

3. You should see the two partial downloads, find the one that says 4.95GB of 6.0GB, and click the Blue Play Button. That should resume the download.

I think I tried that earlier, but it started at zero and stopped at a few hundred kb.

I'll start the download again tonight with an empty downloads folder.

Please use a download manager addon for Firefox so there is no chance a failed download doesn't happen to your a third time.

DownThemAll! is a superb download manager that will allow resumption of any download at any time.

Or try to install a bittorrent client and use bittorrent download option, again for same reason, it allows resumption of a intterupted download. I prefer this one: http://www.qbittorrent.org/

I went with the bitttorrent, and I'm lost. I am in the program and there are three files.

One .zip file with nothing in it.

one ISO file at 6.03GB and one PART file at 4.95.

Torrent says it's completed downloading.

Also, before I saw your recommendation, I downloaded the file again from ModDB using regular firefox.

I have all 6GB, but the file is corrupted (despite me having my AV software off.)

Let's use the file you downloaded through bittorrent.
Did you install the QBittorrent client, or use another client?

Open your bittorrent client.
You should see the list of files you are downloading,
prbf2_1.0.29.0_full_unpassworded.iso should be on the list.
It should say it's 100% downloaded.
Right click the file, select "Open in Folder" or something like that.

In the folder , you should see your prbf2_1.0.29.0_full_unpassworded.iso file.

Right click the file, Select "Open With..", then select Mount Files with Virtual Clone Drive

Give it a few moments to load the .iso into a virtual DVD Drive.

Go to "My Computer", you should now see a new DVD Drive, with the PR Icon,
Double Click to open it/run it/or Autostart run it.
That should start the Setup.exe program to install PR.
Follow the directions to start the installation of PR.

BEFORE you try to then update PR, make sure you download and install the Visual C++ Redistributable Update 4 from Microsoft. Directions and download link here:

I used QBittorrent.

When I open the folder, the files are prbf2_1.0.29.0_full_unpassworded.zip.part
and prbf2_1.0.29.0_full.iso

I right click on the ISO file and there is no "open with"

So I click on "Open" and "Select programs from a list"

There is no "Mount files with virtual clone drive"

Did you install Slysoft Virtual Cone Drive or not?

I did not. However, I had 7-zip extract the ISO file and install PR.


Now I just need to work through the C++ and all that.

Will I need Virtual Clone Drive otherwise?

One other thing, it still gives me the C++ error upon starting, even though I installed and then repaired the C++ Update 4.

Will this be fixed upon doing the other PR updates?

For your case and anyone else installing now, As soon as you can update to 1.0.33, it will fix itself,

and in the future for people installing fresh, whenever the Devs can release 1.0.37, there will be a better fix that will make sure this doesn't occur.
