Problem with Quicktime.

I'm trying to watch a Video my cousins in kazakhstan sent over and its in quicktime format. Everytime I try to launch the video in QT it crashes my pc. Is there a way to view QT files without using quicktime itself? I tried other media players but they dont work at all with qt files.
