You do not require a steam copy of bf2. Any legal version of BF2(steam,origin,cd,...) will do.

Most PR public servers indeed require you to have a valid cd key yes.

Check Amazon.comphagwagon wrote:Ahhh ok. Well any idea where I can get a key for less then $20 ? Or any other way to play on all the good PR servers ?
You can get a new disc copy for under $20 bucks (which includes your CD key)
Playing with someone else's key is a bad idea - do not do that. It's very badbad.

Re: Battlefield 2 steam needed for PR ?
You need a legit key to play on most servers - end of story.
Using a shared key is a bad idea because you will eventually be linked to a hacker and not only will the key be banned, you will lose any credibility within the community.
How you obtain a legit key is up to you - try amazon, steam, or origin.
Any further discussion about non legit software and the thread will be locked.

Re: Battlefield 2 steam needed for PR ?
Why would you want the steamoverlay in PR??

I believe it allows people to chat with their steam friends without minimizing the game.Daniel wrote:Why would you want the steamoverlay in PR??

Then maybe there is a fix somehow from steam side... (or tell the steam-support to make the overlay work in BF2 or is it working in vBF2 ?? )

Re: Battlefield 2 steam needed for PR ?
IIRC, it's Punkbuster for BF2 that is the issue with Steam overlay. There's no chance of anything being done by DICE/EA/Punkbuster to fix that.
