PR Crash to Desktop

Post by C12AZY »

Hi, I'm having an issue with PR and I'm not sure what's causing it?
I open PR and I get as far as the first video then I see the PR dog tag spin a few times and then it crashes to desktop. The only difference I can see is that this time that it's crashing there is a red line on the left edge of my screen and on the top that I've never seen before.

I've tried uninstalling and also clearing the shader cache. Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

If you have any type of overlay program running, RAPTR, Overwolf, TS3 overlay, etc.
TURN THEM OFF COMPLETELY.

If you have type of USB audio, or other non 3.5mm jack type of audio output or input, try unplugging it then starting PR.

Thanks but no luck. Still getting the, "PR:BF2 stopped working, cleaning up resources" things.
Weird, it just stopped working from 1 day to the next. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers.

Logitech QuickCam Orbit AF

Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe

Try disabling those in Device Manager, one at a time, and rebooting, then starting vanilla BF2, join an online multiplayer server.

The webcam is probably fine, but that soundcard might just be a problem.

I'm not real sure what's the source of this problem, we'll have to go step by step through various possible causes.

Have you tried running it in windowed mode?

LITOrials I'll give that a shot and see what happens. Psyrus I've tried running it in Windows mode already with no luck.

Ok, so I disabled the soundcard and started BF2 & joined a server. I can't start PR2 with the sound card disabled because the launcher crashes and doesn't open. When I re-enable the sound card the launcher works but I still can't get passed the intro video.

Also disabled the webcam and had the same results.

Are you sure you didn't install RAPTR with the newest AMD drivers update? The Express installation option automatically installed RAPTR and sets RAPTR to start on boot and run in background. The RAPTR overlay will cause this problem.

I'm going to rattle off some questions for known causes to this problem:

Do you have a Logitech G series keyboard with an integrated LCD display?
DO you have any wireless audio mics/speakers/headphones attached to the system?
How long had PR been working for you?
Did you change your antivirus/firewall/router settings and/or firmware?

You could try
- reimporting your working BF2 profile (if you remember your profile name and password):
Start PRLauncher->Play->Manage Profiles->Select your profile->Delete Profile Button
Start PRLauncher->Play->Manage Profiles->Create Profile->Import Existing BF2 Profile

Also, you can update this .NET Framework: 4.5 to .NET Framework: 4.5.1

You were right about RAPTR, I never used it before so I just uninstalled it but still no luck.

I don't have that keyboard.

- Nothing wireless besides my printer.

-PR has worked since the first day I installed it which was some time last year. I got a new PC and it worked on it too the first time, then a few days later when I wanted to play again it didn't work. In between those few days I may have updated my sound card drivers and I downloaded Origin/Installed BF4.

-AV/Firewall hasn't changed but I did buy a new router, I haven't play PR on the new router yet but I was playing on the old one.

-NET Framework was updated to 4.5.1 since the day I started this thread

-I've tried deleting the profile before with no luck

Does BF2 start up just fine with the soundcard enabled?

Yes, BF2 starts with the sound card enabled. Also, can join a server.

*EDIT: Hmmmm, joined a server but I have no sound. When I go to the sound options Audio Renderer says AUDIOSETTINGS_ and Sound Quality is Low but it's all greyed out I can't change the sound options in game.

I reformatted my PC for different reasons. I updated all my drivers and I'm installing PR again. The differences this time is when I installed PR the first time to this new PC my Sound Drivers were not the latest and I had my old router. Guess if it still doesn't work it's one of those two?

*Edit: No luck...the damn thing just doesn't work anymore. Guess I'll see you in PR2 I hope.

Really sorry to hear that... It's a very strange issue!

The last ditch effort I can offer is, if you'd like, I can remotely access your PC and have a look around to see if I notice anything "off" about it that might be causing it. I was able to troubleshoot two other peoples' issues this way, but due to timezone issues it may take a while before we can find a time that suits both of us.

There was some new update released for PR and now it's working, no idea why it stopped in the first place but whatever!

This all started with 1.1.4.0 or 1.1.6.0 and now my client will crash to desktop after a random duration of time, no error message, whenever there's a server map change in progress, or during the loading screen.

I run Project Reality as an Administrator and I've applied the 3GB RAM fix.
