good mortar locations

Post by fatalsushi83 »

I've been leading insurgent/Taliban mortar teams recently and was wondering if you guys could suggest a good location to build mortars on Karbala. I've been thinking about this but I just can't figure out a spot where the mortars wouldn't get discovered very quickly because bluefor seems to be everywhere on this map.

I would say somewhere inside the city, under either the OP smoke cover (the one that thermals cant see through) or near lots of building cover. Because 9 times out of 10 the UAV will spot you out and call in CAS or their own mortars. Then of course there is the added problem of being in the city which leaves you quite vunerable to infantry attack.

As insurgents, having spotters for your mortars stationed near the blufor typical mortar spots is essential imo.

At that point, I just build the mortars near known caches (since they'll be attacking there anyway and we can call in ammo from passing-by friendlies) and mortar until need be. Keeping the enemy's mortars down is always my #1 priority, and at that point you can just start mortaring their FOBs.

Blufor without fobs = almost an assured loss.

On Karbala....

Sort of near the mosque, so you can do a quick resupply and such.

Psyrus said is correct.
If you don't have spotters for your mortards, you will be useless almost.

If u think it's a good spot, then nme might think the same.

In karbala, there is an alley way 1kp north of insurgents' main. it's a good spot. kiowa can only attack from east. And since it's deep in the city. It will be hard for clear it out with Inf and APCs.(Even they killed ur mortar guys, they can spawn fast and make blufor's assault a one way trip.)

But even it's a good spot, u can't defend from enemy mortar fire. Find their mortar is important. Like Psyrus said.

Thanks for all the advice. That alleyway north of main sounds good. It seems like the only spot where you have a chance of keeping the mortars up for a considerable amount of time. I'll give it a try next time.
