I figured "Dad INF" was a clever squad name and thanks to some patient squadmates I managed to do some good squadleading for the Taliban, by fobbing the living daylights out of the map... whichever map it was. A I guess that was enough to rank me #1 by the end, which I think is my first time at the #1 spot, so that's nice, yay. We built so many fobs, the other squads could pretty much focus on defending caches, and that dynamic seemed to work... we just barely won what felt like a losing battle. We were kind of grumbling about being the only fob-builders but the server was only half-full so everybody else did pretty much have their hands full.
At the beginning of the game I was like "ugh I just wanna sneak around guys, and ambush them..." but by the end I was all sold on the freedom of building fobs without crates. Plus we got plenty of action anyway. I did a pretty **** job of managing my crew when we came under fire, which would have screwed us if the whole squad had been noobs like me! I was pretty indecisive as usual and kept things pretty loose but I made some good calls and came up with some strategies that turned out to be sound, which I think is my big thrill up in the game: being right. It's the best.
Squadleading is funny because it can be so confusing that it's just impossible to think, but sometimes you get to a point of clarity where everybody's reports flow into a clear picture of what's going on and it's obvious what needs doing, and then squadmembers can actually hear that clarity in the squadleader's voice. I don't really think that acting decisive and confident is enough. I guess the trick is to be able to create that point of clarity for the squad, when you've got no idea what's going on, no idea what to do, can't tell what people are saying, and you're under fire.
Built my way to #1
