Why don't tanks have a warning beep?
I was just wondering; why don't tanks/APC's have a warning tone when a missile is about to hit?
iirc they have those things in the "latest" tanks.
It's something miniscul, low priority, but still..

Isn't the answer already included in your question?
I'm just guessing here but I think it's because they are not standard equipment in those armies.Careless wrote:"latest" tanks..

As far as I know it is also technical impossible to implement in BF2 because it is only the heat seeking weapon type that can warn the target. So for it to work you would have a kit that can lock on both air and land vehicles.

Vanilla BF2 had a warning siren in tanks....Gracler wrote:As far as I know it is also technical impossible to implement in BF2 because it is only the heat seeking weapon type that can warn the target. So for it to work you would have a kit that can lock on both air and land vehicles.

Really? damn It has been so long since I played that shit
I think that they used up all the ammunition types for the planes in PR though..... something like that.

would it really matter if there was a warning when it's ABOUT to hit?

Little red box with an 'X' in it and the beeping tone at 01:11.

It should be possible in theory when pretty much any guided weapon is pointed at a vehicle equipped with it.

TOWs can be relatively slow, a second can save your team some tickets and armor supportsweedensniiperr wrote:would it really matter if there was a warning when it's ABOUT to hit?

Re: Why don't tanks have a warning beep?
The reason is that, iirc, it gives the warning upon lock, not upon launch.
The BF2 engine has no way of finding out whether a missile is about to hit the tank or going in the other direction, to the best of my knowledge. It does have a way of knowing whether the weapon is pointing at the tank, though. Hence, in Vanilla, the warning was tied to the lock, not the launch.
Not sure if we could get around that - and if we did, there's no real countermeasures against a player guided missile anyway. Smoke would probably hardly build up quick enough, and the tank would hardly be able to dodge out of the way. In vanilla, you could do both of these things, because the missiles were extremely slow. In PR, smoke is more of a preventive tactic, and to dodge a guided missile is down to luck if anything.
________
Naturally, IRL it's not possible for a tank to know whether a missile is being aimed at it. It can detect the launch signature and the computer can spot the missile in flight due to its unique characteristics, but I don't know of a system that is able to identify a handheld weapon and give a warning - and even if such a system exists, some very basic concealment of the weapon would suffice to avoid it. Or it'd be overly sensitive and keep giving the warning when there's just an RPG launcher lying around on the floor next to a corpse or a remotely tube-like object sticks out of a wall.

should be useful for run away from hats and tows, in BF2 you get the warning only if the shooter is aim hes sights at you and guide the laser but if you not aim at the tank he get no warning and only get the warning when the missile is out, one day i put the laser designator no the sniper in bf2 and notice when i click at the tank, apc, heli the bots always launch the flares/smoke because they are been fired by some laser. so is the laser whats give the warning and not the missile it self.

For more advanced ones, I like the idea, it would give them a split second to get out before they are hit.

I also want to survive from CAS, but thats not the reason we should add anti-air missiles in tanks.Roque_THE_GAMER wrote:Hell yes! i want to survive from tows!
Early warning systems don't have place in PR, except for air vehicles.
For the following reasons:
- Small maps: System becomes the new "You're dead" message.
- Big Maps: Team play becomes useless, I have a "beep" radar that tells me were are the AT emplacements.

Dont question the wikipedia! Just because it reports different things on different languages does not make it unreliable source!

tow still got a time ain at you and the tank have a little time to try to get cover or run and what about the leetsskillsninjaHAT hide out of no were from the combat zone? this should give the tank a chance and the hats be more careful.O_turista_portugues wrote:I also want to survive from CAS, but thats not the reason we should add anti-air missiles in tanks.

Why not just give T-90 active defense?

All Dutch CV90 APC's have a laser warning reciever, so as soon as is being painted with a guidance beam the sensors will pick this up and send off an alarm, same way as a laser shield works in you car when the police is using a laser gun to check your speed.
