After update, PR Running Really Slow

Post by Stonefly2 »

Hello all,

After I updated this last time, my PR is running very slow. The game takes 2 minutes to launch (Stays on the black screen for a long time before the into animation with the jets, dog tags, etc.) and the maps take about 4 minutes to load. I seriously go through at least 2 rounds of the loading music. Happens on every map, new or old. When I am in game, the movements are very choppy now. Not sure what caused this change.

Here are my stats.

A SSD is recommended.

Also, any reason why don't u play on high details?

The bigger the content folder gets, the longer you have to load every asset in the game.
Meaning that if a new faction is added the content of this new faction is slowing down all the maps.

Suggestion:

I think it might be better to make a pr_base_(factionname) folder and other smaller content folders that devide all the assets, to reduce the loading time.

For example make a pr_base_ger folder with kits, soldiers, weapons and vehicles (mabe even some effects) that are purly used for german forces and load this folder only if you have german forces on your map.

I belive the factions are a good "cut" into does folders, since you most of the times only have 2 or 3 per map.

Ofcourse ther still are many objects that are crossed used and there should still be a common folder, but I estimate this should reduce loading time by about 60%.

I had changed the graphics details to see if it had an effect on gameplay. High, medium or low, it runs the same.

I have this same loading issue, and once the game is loaded whenever I try to join a server it just crashes to desktop. This has happened with every server I have tried so far.

As an owner of the better 650 I am a bit shocked at the suggestion of high.

Of course, this was coming from a dowgrade of an ATI 5870.

Yet I do have to say the 650 isn't enough for playing PR on medium even with the AMD 965 Black Edition and 4GB of DDR3 1033 PErhaps it could work with the users I7 and 8GB of RAM but to try high on anything less would probably be like playing a gif.
