Where do you have to position an ammo crate on a mortar so that it automatically refills the mortar with ammo?

This was answered in the in-game chat while you were playing.

You have to use rifleman ammo bags to reload mortars. Then you use the supply crates to reload the rifleman's ammo bag. Rinse and repeat.

Speaking of which I think the white insurgency offroad carrying the 3 wooden ammo crates doesn't actually contain all that much munition and have to be resupplied a lot. I am sure that was intended but anyone alse think it should contain a little more?

Throw a rifleman ammo purse on the mortar pit. (In the pit itself)

Pick Rifleman kit up
Throw ammo bag on mortar
rearm
repeat
profit?
