"Your Connection to the server has been lost."

Post by Redmist »

So, just about every time I play PR, no matter what server (I frequent FCV and HOG mostly) I end up getting the "Your connection to the server has been lost" after playing for 10-15 minutes. My PC is stable, and I don't have any connection issues in other games at all. I've searched for solutions, tried a few different things, but most of the topics and answers I'm finding are a few years old at this point, so I figured I'd start my own thread. I'd really like to play in the PR tournament, but I won't be able to do so when I'm getting disconnected so frequently.

Basically their DPI interferes with PR and causes disconnects. Vote with your wallet if possible and go to a company that doesn't spy on you :)

Well shit. I had heard about people having issues with Comcast, but all of those threads were much older, I don't know why I didn't find this one. Comcast is the only choice in my area, at least without taking a very significant hit in speed (going from Cable to DSL...), so it's not really an option to switch, as much as I'd like to.

Anyway, I'm seeing a lot of info in that thread. X-Fi audio can cause issues, and I was running sound on Ultra in X-Fi mode, as I have a Creative Sound Blaster Z. I will lower this to Medium Software and see if that changes anything, though I doubt it as it seems like Comcast is my main issue.

As for Comcast, I am using one of the Arris Modems that seem to be causing issues (telephony modem (not gateway/router) because we have triple play internet/phone/tv service) with a Linksys E2000 router running DD-WRT firmware.

My computer is set to a static IP, set up as DMZ through the router, Windows Firewall is disabled, and I'm not using any other types of security. I don't have any connection issues with other games, even when hosting servers.

I'm not a very good troubleshooter. I pretty much just went and did a whole list of things I thought might help.

1.) Changed audio as mentioned in the above post.
2.) Disabled SPI firewall in my router config
3.) Changed my DNS server from Google to Level3
4.) Applied the fixes mentioned in this thread.
5.) Disabled Nagle-Algorithm
6.) Being connected to a Teamspeak server while I play. (I thought this was a silly fix, but whatever, I'm on Teamspeak a lot anyway, so if staying muted in an AFK channel of Teamspeak has a 0.1% chance of helping, I'll just do it).

I don't want to say for sure that all or any of these fixes have solved the issue, but I was able to stay connected to the HOG server for just over an hour, until the server shut down.
