Re: GPUz fail
Try stressing the GPU or clicking on the question mark next to it. The number should go up.

Re: GPUz fail
I ran the inbuilt stress test no change, tried gaming with gpuz on a second screen no change.
However looking at nvidia I think it's wrong. Game performance is unchanged unless my card has always been on x1.
I am not sure if the nvidia system information is telling me actual bus or possible bus.
However I have another GPU and mobo on the way for testing.
After searching it seems to be a failing mobo in most cases, except in the case of laptops, which mine is, where it can be some power saving stuff playing up.

Tech ARP - How To Fix The PCI Express x1 Bug Rev. 4.1
I would try with some other software and try benchmarking before anything else, cause it may just be stupid glitch and nothing else. If it says its x1 and its running under x16 why does it matter?

Re: GPUz fail
I ran 3DMark 06 as in a huge thread about my laptop many others ran the same test getting around 5000.
My score was 2812.
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card benchmark result - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600,MSI MS-1722
So maybe GPUz is correct.
Secondhand GPU and mobo on the way....
You thinks its worth getting my GPU reballed once a spare has arrived, as I don't want to put this laptop in the bin for a very very long time.
I have removed the GPU and reapplied paste, but I do think its on its way out.

Re: GPUz fail
Yeah...compared to other results and especially the top one, yours sucks. Have you tried any of the tweaks if possible from the link above? Try clean install of driver - purge it, then install the latest?
Don't forget to clean the slot and the pins on the card, just dont damage it. If it keeps failing, then replacement is the only option. As I understood you have spare parts incoming? Try a new card on that old mobo, and if it gives same reading then its mainboard right? Swap the mainboard then and test both cards see what you get. Odd thing to die like that.

Re: GPUz fail
Yes that's my plan, it's been a bit ill for a while, seems typical in laptops with the heat cracking the lead free solder. Seen a few threads with the same thing sadly only result after trying reseating is new parts.
That'll be fun doing a mobo swap, but luckily my machine was sold hugely as a barebones (MSI 1722) so lots of info around about it.

Re: GPUz fail
Just swapped in a second hand ebay GPU and GPUz reports X16 and in game fps has rocketed, I will redo 3D Mark06 to get hard numbers soon, but so far looks like dodgy solder on the GPU was probably the problem.
