promote using voice techniques

Post by thomaskunze »

I really enjoy playing PR - mostly on iGi, less on TB. Let me please comment on an issue, I guess many of you guys are aware of. Looking back to .3 and pre .3 times AFAIR, most of the time I joined a squad on a server, there have been people communicating in squads. SLs often knew their job very well, used their tools regularly and - most important - directed their squad orally.

I am quite happy for every new vanilla player who looks up and explores the gameplay of PR. Since the player base has increased over time, I have only very seldom the pleasure to work with a SL with communication skills. Many of those even neither have a mike plugged in nor do they lead their squad in a proper way.
I never used the ingame voice system in vBF2, but this has changed rapidly in the first few hours of PR! The difference is huge - everyone of you may know this and I do not have to throw in more arguments pro voice.

To come to an end, I would really like to promote the usage of the ingame voice system to everyone. Maybe there can be some special messages during install included (but no one ever reads this stuff...). Are there some technical possibilities to push the players to use voice (i.e. only those players who have voice enabled can apply for SL's or commander's position or stuff like this), rather than the use of social engineering (leading a squad with voice and convince those "none mike users" to better have one)? The latter once happened to me and I am very glad to have persuaded at least one guy (who assured me he had set a mike on his Christmas wish-list :) ).

Anyway, you all got my point. I really hope, we will have more great rounds in the future and even more some good communication in the squads and between SLs and the very rarely present commanders.

I use VoIP every day and only join squads where it is used, too.
Unfortunately, there is no way to force people to talk, but if you play late at night, most of the players on the server will do.

PS: Have you got Xfire? Good to see somebody who likes to use VoIP aswell.

my local Poundland sold mics off, basic desktop flexi ones, that were better than my leadtec mono noise reducing headset

Always use VOIP.

One way to force people to use VOIP could be to get rid of the graphic info signs in the squad leaders menu.
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

rofl, no that would just be stupid.
after all, its far more difficult to give precise movement orders wihtout the icons, its not like the streets in urban maps have names and just imagine it in open landscape

Voip keeps you alive much better, and in my opinion is essential for a sl to maintain cohesion. Without Voip it seem so much like playing vanilla, in terms of chaotic running about.

Voice always... if i had my way i would disable the special kits unless you had VOIP active.

Lots of old voice discussion on this thread. - with advice.

I think the VOIP use is one of the major draw factors to a newb in PR. I know for me, even at first when I sucked, to be able to be in a squad and communicate and have a role can make even ar round where youer 2-12 amazingly fun

I always use voip.
i hate squad leaders the dont use voip so i leave and make my own squad. Even if i do bad then, i seem to get quite a bit of people staying because i am always talking ot them and giving them things to do that will help.
'[5NFSO wrote:Thunder']i hear the chinese insurgents are gonna have push bikes, and on some maps they might even have baskets or bells (they cant have both as its too imbalancing)

I find it amazing that people say all this when I have NEVER heard anyone using VOIP in PR.
