On the larger vehicle orientated maps
You know, like Greasy Mullet. Wouldn't it make sense to have spawn times for vehicles less? Seeing as after about....3 minutes all vehicles will be pretty much gone and you'll end up with virtually the rest of the round being infantry on a large map.
That'd be ok for the city maps (Like Ejod) and will probably get better in 0.5, but i'm just saying that on the big vehicle maps that the spawn times should be less. Maybe not for Planes and Helicopters but for Tanks, APC's and other ground vehicles.

i disagree.
my vote is for LONGER respawn. You need to make players think more carefully and less like careless idiots.
If you shortened the spawn times, its all out madness, which is fun for a bit, but why not just play POE2 if you want constant armor battles?
Armor battle should be a thinking mans game, not an arcade twitcher... with constant explosions and vehicles popping up left right and center...
just my opinion, doesnt reflect the dev teams view on this matter.

Completely disagree. If somebody can't keep a tank alive for 10 minutes then they are not using it as intended.
The larger vehicle oriented maps have support vehicles on them and these, in conjunction with engineers, should be used to help keep vehicles alive.
In addition vehicles should be operated with a huge sense of teamwork associated to them.. meaning that you need to ensure the air is clear before trundling off in a tank to go base rape.
If anything we'll be moving to a more punitive system of vehicle reinforcements where there may be a fixed supply of vehicles on a map and once you lose them you aren't getting any more.
There's nothing more ridiculous than the BF2 mechanism of : "kill tank, move forward, tank respawns, kill tank, move forward, tank respawns, kills you".

I know that specifically with helo's, there are 2 reasons people dont keep vehicles long enough
1. they dont know how to use the vehicle from a technical sense
-helicopters are a ***** to fly, unless you can make it go where you want, when you want, how fast you want, you will not be able to use that vehicle to your full potential. When you cant evade, whether it be flying low to evade some AA, barrell rolls to get the drop on another copter, if you cant control yourself youll end up dying fast. Alot of people assume that they can fly like a pro because they can take off and get around, but thats so untrue.
2. they dont know how to use the vehicle from a tactical sense
- theres nothing more frustrating then watchign a cobra pilot take off, fly straight to a flag, randomly fire off their missiles hoping to get some kills, then end up getting blasted by AA fire. The best stratagey while playing an offensive role with a heli is to fly HIGH and wait until someone spots a target to attack.
In any vehicle, especially air vehicles, you are a big and high priority target... everyone with an rpg will be waiting for a shot on you if they can see you, so dont be seen. The ability of a cobra to dive almost straight down from 400m, unleash 24 hydras on a target, and speed off with more agility than you could need makes it the most powerful weapon in the game, no question, but when you take it and hover around a hot zone, youre wasting that power.
obviosuly you cant sit around and wait for targets to be spotted, but if youre going to attack a flag, dont go in from the angle they think... if the front line is to the south, attack from the north. And no matter what you do, dont fly over a target... the easiest helicopter to hit is one coming or going straigh at or away. Dive, turn, flip, bank... become a hard target.

uh, that would be very contradicting compared to reality...causticbeat wrote: ...The best stratagey while playing an offensive role with a heli is to fly HIGH and wait until someone spots a target to attack.
that actually shows that you don´t know how to use the chopper either, the strongest weapons are those from the gunner, and that would be the guided anti-tank missile - the hydras are only usefull against soft targets, and against infantry i would use the <needsmoresplashdamage> gun, also controlled by the gunner - seriously, the hydras should be fired by the gunner too...causticbeat wrote: ....The ability of a cobra to dive almost straight down from 400m, unleash 24 hydras on a target, and speed off with more agility than you could need makes it the most powerful weapon in the game...

wait, are tanks considered soft targets? Its not many hydras in a tank.
my experiences withe gunners in PR is that theyre very hit or miss. some are spot on, some attack the tanks with the cannons.
And I realise that right now the best way to fly a heli is unrealistic, but until .5 and the heli updates, if you fly realistically you will be hit with one of the 100 rpg's that are always one the other team

Well most people will sacrifice themselves for an attack chopper. I don't fly much , i'm ****, but if a chopper is on a pad for ages i'll take it up for some practice. I've tried hugging the ground, approaching from behind our tanks an infantry, firing a salvo/lining the gunner up, then poping flares and ducking in to the terrain to break AA locks. But front line rpg and heavy at soldiers will stand up and track you in the face of enemy armour just for the chance of killing you.causticbeat wrote:And I realise that right now the best way to fly a heli is unrealistic, but until .5 and the heli updates, if you fly realistically you will be hit with one of the 100 rpg's that are always one the other team
Again its the balance of realisitic deaths with 'dear god not the spawn screen again syndrome.'

Flying low and approaching from behind armor/inf cover isnt the answer. Everyone knows that the second theres an attack chopper, whether it be a cobra or a little bird or whatever, people are on the look out. The second someone is killed by you in that chopper, theyre coming in RPG, heavy at, or light at to try to get revenge. Thats why the factor of suprise is the best, and people need to use altitude to an advantage. when your 200m high, you can position yourself anywhere for an attack... why go straight in and low when you have such an amazing power.

The all seeing eye that is the enemy helicopter spotted message needs to go (for everything for that matter). If every gomer with a HE warhead didn't have a magical radar to track the helos with, they just might be a little more survivable. The only way to not get dead in the littlebird is to fly like a maniac, doing maneuvers that would probably make Sir Isaac himself question his own laws.
