Trucks APC's and Civilian Vehicles

Post by waffenbaum »

*moved to this separate thread*

I'd very much like to see more transport vehicles in the game, I really don't believe that regular soldiers would have to hoof it as much as they currently do in game, especially long stretches through dangerous open areas.

Therefore, we might benefit from more trucks and APC's
Such as these:

Arriving in style, notice the roof mounted guns on these trucks

And, eh. A humvee I think, but see the cloth cover?

Image
*cough* moving on...

Furthermore, civilian vehicles would be a big hit I'm sure. And not DC's genetic pickup truck (I didn't like those very much) but rather old beaten-up all terrain vehicles suitable for the desert environment, and small scooters and motorcycles, especially like the one on the last picture. great for getting around if you're separated from your group, and a fine mean of transportation if you have been dropped without support vehicles.

Plus, it would add flavour and realism to have abandoned motorcycles and such lying in ditches and leaned against walls.

I remember watching a story where some US soldiers pretty much handed out compensation slips to various Saudi civilians in order to commandeer vehicles for military use. They used a lot of semis to drive the heavy armor to staging areas. Supposedly the owners were compesated well for vehicles that weren't exactly mint condition.

Ya, furthering solo's comment, they DID have civillian vehicles in the game, but took them out. Most likely due to thier god like powers that let them know exactly what kind of a game we want... idiots.

Definetely put technicals in, and a good assortment of civillian vehicles would be great.

Anyone remeber the very first E3 vid? Where he rolls behind a car that looks like the ones that were in dc, there are bullet holes all over it, and then he shoots the guy? We need cool civillian stuff like that.

Not quite; they're of the same family of vehicles, but the above photograph is the Recovery (towing and maintenance) variant of the AAV7 series. The lower one is the Personnel carrier. We would like to include it. They're monstrous vehicles with great troop capacity.

The HMMWV does come in flatbed cargo/troop carrier versions and a different variety of covers are available, including the large canopy seen in the photo of the burning HMMWV. The "clamshell" HMMWVs are the primary weapons carriers, but there are retrofittable weapon station kits for the cargo/troop carriers.

The second HMMWV pic you posted, the one in the flood, is a shelter carrier version. The attached shelter can be for C4I equipment or it might be a mobile workshop.

This looks like a posed gag photograph, but believe it or not, US forces in Afghanistan have been using horses and donkey/mule strings (FPCs or LLPCs) on operations since the beginning of the war. They're especially useful in that environment and in unconventional warfare.

You should see some of the photos of the gun trucks from Vietnam, they looked like something out of Mad Max, only greener. They would have multiple machineguns in the flatbed; was like a B-17 on wheels.

Aaah yes, thanks Eddie. And although i don't think the donkey cart will be included, I'd like to hear an honest opinion on any of the posted vehicles chances of appering ingame. :D

Agreed, If I were their commander and this happened, the would defenitly be in some deep trouble... To do that, would be very disrespectful, and give a very bad image to our troops who are currently giving thier lifes for the Iraqi people and us, god bless them. Lets just hope they come home safe and soon...

Why would you want the donkey cart? From what I read in the n00b thread there are enough jackasses in the game *** it is. :P ;)

The cargo/troop carrier HMMWV, not sure. I don't think the shelter carrier variants would have much of a gameplay use, but might be interesting as static objects in a base-camp setting. Perhaps a functional static, like a workshop shelter that can repair light vehicles.

We would like to include the AAVP7A1, as I mentioned.

As for civilian vehicles and technicals, we'll see what we can put together. A lot of weird stuff was found in Afghanistan and Iraq during the invasion; for example, a motorcycle with the sidecar shell replaced by a recoilless rifle. An interesting way of moving it from position to position.

US special operations forces have their own technicals in the form of up-armored pickup trucks with weapons mounts. Army SF calls them NSCVs (Non-Standard Commercial Vehicles).
