What I'm going for here is a thread of small thing that don't mean much on their own, but contribute to infantry game play as a whole.
First, since 1.0 there seems to be a "CQBization" of many maps, this also effect armor and air vehicle combat. To expand newer post 1.0 maps seem to try for literal bush warfare. Two easy examples to come up with are Vadso City, Xiangshan, Black Gold, Dovre, and Saarema. Vadso used to have a forest where all the bushes are. Xiangshan was released with massive bushes all over the place. Black Gold was changed from a flat map with several big plateau hills to a mess of hills and bomb craters, also sandstorm and nightish low visibility layer. Dovre is very dense until you get to one of the few fields or the city, odd that the city provides some of the longest range combat in the map. Saarema the pine trees are so low that your head is in a frickin tree the whole map.
Second, binoculars, this seemed like an innocent feature before 1.0 and it is still annoying this long after 1.0 especially with BLUFOR unscoped kits. Two factions where the lack of binoculars seem to hurt are IDF and Russian forces. The IDF kits lack scopes on some maps, and still don't get any binoculars to balance out the enemies scoped/binocular advantage. Take Asad Khal the layout with MEC v IDF, the MEC get their usual rifles and IDF get the same unscoped kits the get on the HAMAS layer. With Russian kits the scope as mentioned before is very large and is a bit distracting, so iron sights are preferable, but then you get nothing to get enhanced views when you need it.
Third, AT kits. LAT kits seem to be very ineffective, it is rare for the one shot ATs, rpg 26, at4 and its variants, to actually kill or severely damage armor, HAT kits can do the job but you can only grab one per team so on large maps it is easy for the HAT to be on one side of the map and the armor on the other. Sure you can build TOWs but TOWs are much easier to kill than somebody with a HAT kit.
Fourth C4 system. Honestly I didn't see the problem with incediary grenades. They allowed all people in a squad to knock out FOBs/cashes/deployables, now you have to wait for the C4 guy to show up to kill anything, if you can't get a big enough squad for C4 and combat engineers aren't available then you are screwed. Also why is there no command detonated C4 anymore? Also what happened to the "string system" where you could set up a blue and yellow string of IEDs?
