Warning: May contain sharp edges
This has just occured to me. After playing probably about 40 hours of PR, I can honestly say i've only been knifed once, and that was due to a lag spike. It just goes to show that this mod really is many times better than vanilla. How many times have you been knifed in vBF2 compared to PR?
I am and always will be a hater of knife fights. They can be fun in certain circumstances, but they have no place in modern warfare* and thankfully the PR team has done a good job of reducing this crappy vanilla element of the game. You may feel different, but I feel that element of the game can be left to the teabaggers and medal whores.
*Please don't mention stories of spec ops knifing entire squads and gurkha's skinning japs in the war, I'm talking in a very general way.

I only knife when I'm in a close quarters situation (and I mean very close, like a five meters or less) and my mag is dry. I take out the knife and charge him

i remember i snuck up on an entire squad, shot 2 guys with my M16, shot another with a pistol, then proceeded to knife a further 3 guys in cover (1 of which saw me, but instead of shoooting at me tryed to revive a squad member)

I've gotten 21 knife kills and died 12 times from them. Just checked the stats. That's across both this handle, and my [PR]ARRC|Wasteland handle, which I use almost exclusively since I got it.
Knife kills are very usefull. They don't give away your position, and they are one shot kills (although I always give repeated swipes to make sure). If you shoot somebody that you've snuck up on, there's always the chance he'll turn around before completely dying and get off a spot or a shot. Plus you're clip will not be completely full, and you'll either have to face the next engagement with a sub-par clip, or reload- exposing yourself for those few seconds. And most importantly, you've just telegraphed where you are to his teammates.
As far as killing a sniper, he knows where you are anyways due to the camera shot that stays centered on your killer when you die.
If you climb a ladder to find several hostiles firing from the roof, facing away from you, you can either throw a grenade and hope it kills all of them, or you can knife them one by one. I'd go for the knife.
Last night I made the fatal error of knifing though. I was playing on a small server with 8 total players. I tried to knife a sniper from behind. But on such a small server, everybody's paying attention to footsteps, and so he turned and shot me. Oh well. Lesson learned.

I love to knife someone, and actually prefer the knife in many situations...
I need more practice with it though....
If the enemy is on the ground, like snipers and others, the best weapon is the knife....
i have 57 knife kills, and 19 of the times i have tried to use it i failed...
I good knife kill is what make a big grin on my face, because you know that you took out the enemy in a matter he probably didn’t expect...
The best part with using the knife!! You save ammo, and his friend don’t hear your shoots when you take him out,....

I have knifed a few guys, and probably been knifed once or twice. Everytime (except once!) the one getting knifed has been a sniper. And that one time I just had to make a rambo attack with my knife because the silly US soldiers couldn't kill me so I ran out of ammo. And I managed to knife one, stand there looking at his kit with my finger already on the "g" button. And bam, there comes another one of his friends shooting at me from the behind.
Kinda sucked getting shot to the back right after my glorious knife assault.

haha - always when i find someone lying and sniping (not as a sniper, i mean generally) i like to sneak up behind them and snipe them - especially spec-op on all fallujah or so - it´s really fun ^^ though it has cost me my life a few times already, you know, you want to knife a lonely guy only to find out he is not as lonely as you thought..

I've only got like 2 knife kills. I'd rather just kill them with a shot to the head. Why?
- Goon is dead, can't be revived
- Goon doesn't show up on medics radar, medics aren't alerted
- Goon would have a hard time thinking where it came from, instead of knowing that someone was just were he was a probably is still there.

I can remember ONCE when I was in an actual knife fight. I was the last man in my squad to come around a corner of a building in Sunset City. When I was about 10 feet beyond hte corner, my squad had already ran behind some other building and were out of eye-shot.
Then a crazy PLA comes out of no where and we both try to jump out of the way and shoot each other at the same time. After wasting our clips, I realize... great, im out of ammo. Then I saw the PLA guy stop, heard a few clicking noises like he was out of ammo, and then we pulled out our knives and rushed each other.
Don't remeber who won, but it probly wasn't me, as I was lagging pretty bad that day...
Only other use of knives I can think of is killing AFK people/snipers who don't know your coming cuz you snuck up on them.

knife kills actually KILL you, not critically wounded, so they serve a good purpose.
ive found this best in map like ghost train. you are observing an enemy squad passing by. you have identified their squad leader. you sneak behind him and knife him.
now he cant be revived, and even if the rest of the squad kills you, they will no longer have a spawn point and will be leaderless and lost.

Interesting..... while a simple check of your stats does reveal about 47 hours playing time, it also reveals 6 knife kills and 7 knife deaths. Hmmmm.......bullit_toof wrote:This has just occured to me. After playing probably about 40 hours of PR, I can honestly say i've only been knifed once

He'll know he's been knifed though and tell his squad that an enemy is nearby. Whereas if you shot him he wouldn't really know where it came from. The enemy will be confused and you can run off or ambush them.
What needs to be done is that when you die, the screen goes black. Currently when you die you get to see quite alot of stuff. It should go black to prevent people seeing stuff once they've died.
