Where to learn CAS
Hi, I've played the game for 4 months now and I really want to use bigger assets like CAS, I've tried on a coop server but It's not same as deployment.Thing is I can't use it, because I'm not that experienced, I do not want to ruin the entire round, and I don't want to get kicked/banned. So do you have any ideas to help me?

Re: Where to learn CAS
The best thing would be to obtain the ability to take off, fly and land in co-op or local servers then join a CAS squad as a gunner or ground attack if in jet. Don't be afraid if to try again if you fail, just learn what went wrong.
Even experienced players can easily get shot down with the recent AA changes so it's not that much of a deal.

Practice takeoffs and landings in an empty local server. Use rcon commands to ensure a steady supply of flyables. Take more than a few seconds to familarize yourself with what air vehicles have what weapons. Practice weapons release.

Once you can stick the landing 100% of the time, you're essentially ready for prime time. Do not tell anybody you are a new pilot. If pressed just say you're out of practice. Keep an ear on your SL, an eye on your map, communicate with your wingmen, and generally have your head on a swivel.
That's all there is to it.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Re: Where to learn CAS
It's a task you can't learn without doing. As long as you aren't a combative d-bag to your squadmates and team and aren't visibly intentionally wasting assets there's nothing more you can do. Saddle up cowboy
Coms and tactics are really self explanitory. Spotters either have specific instructions or you use your best judgement. Dogfighting is spot first and shoot first or die, you won't live long enough to escape most of the time. Coms are easy, just like any other squad, pass info about targets and threats, maybe friendly banter depending on the other squadmembers.

Ok sounds great, last question, I'm about to buy a joystick with a throttle, is there any difference between joystick and mouse+kb?

Personally I think BF2's axis response is incredibly sloppy, I use pure keyboard with arrow keys for pitch and roll and a/d for rudder. Keyboard binds to switch between the provided views instead of using free look, leaves control of the aircraft with you too.
Some guys swear by their joysticks, others are content with m+k. This is 100% a matter of personal preference.

helos: mouse and/or keyboard
jets: keyboard
good situational awareness and intel from the team will dictate how will you do. try to always run with a spotter in your squad, they'll be doing god's work.. or talk with your commander if you have one. practice makes perfect. if you get locked by AA, spam flares while running away from where you think the source is.... and pray. it'll be a challenge to be decent with this new AA patch, but manageable if you play your cards right. good luck.

keyboard doesnt stand a chance against joystick and keyboard in a jet. buy a cheap joystick.
make sure to set up the "look-around" hotkeys on your joystick and use them constantly without a break until all enemy jets are down.
i could teach you some tricks, pm me and we can meet up if the time is right.

that is super subjective, although i'm no better as I told the OP to use a keyboard.
OP, i would experiment.. but a keyboard will preform the same as a joystick if you use it right.. you won't get any more angle in a joystick vs a keyboard
the way to win as a jet/dog fights is to see the other jets first, so set up your "look around" keys, it'll definitely give you an edge, as well as using left alt to give you more view. i've got mine set up to using numpads since i fly with a keyboard
num 1= view 7
num 2= view 8
num 3=view 9
num 0= view 2 (AA)
(i could have the views in the wrong order/number, but you get the idea)
if you have a joystick around, try it.. if not, i wouldn't go out and buy one just to fly jets for PR.. you will do just as fine with a keyboard, unless you want more immersion i suppose. 99.9% of dogfighting in jets is won by the jet that sees the other first and is able to get behind them
watch some youtube videos too, there's a bunch out there that might give you some ideas

Typically you don't want to be squadleading and flying cas if you can help it, the workload can be a little much.

Re: Where to learn CAS
If you want a good map to fly CAS, play Test Airfield. It has every jet and helicopter in the game.
Some servers run it and you can play it online with others sometimes.

once you get accustomed to flying and squad leading, it'll be heckic, but natural.. i do it all the time, unless i've got a dedicated spotter.. only downside is that it gets annoying to hear all the beeps of the radio, but at the same time, whatever num pad button you press on that corresponds to that squad will also hear the radio beep.. so it might be courtesy to have someone else lead

Re: Where to learn CAS
When you're in jet try to deliver cas as much as you can.You are doing cas not A2A combat.
After dropping a bomb fly straight up press 8 and rightclick and spin jet around with mouse, when you reach 3500 start flying towards out of bounds as fast as you can.
Dont use joystick, its too much delay and in this game there is no realism in jets so you dont need that.
With normal jets you can use mouse, in J10 and Eurofighter you have to use keyboard.Always stay on long range AA missile, on small view distance maps you can see the jet's anti air box BVR.
When in attack heli you have to know that the gunners cannon is rather overpowered, kills in like 5 shots.
Bait the enemy heli into coming to you.Go close to a cappable flag and shoot a couple of missiles, then start backing up and gaining alt at the same time.Hope that when the enemy chopper comes, you are higher than them.
Dont go for lazes of squadleaders that
1. Cant put the cas marker down properly (not setting distance etc.)
2.Cant use their mic/chat to tell you what the target is
If you really want to get into heli flying, find someone who can always fly/gun for you.Doing it with random people is a pain in the ***, especially in this version of PR.

Re: Where to learn CAS
with a proper cockpit-lookaround setup on your hotkeys you will spot any jet without the lockbox and usually you spot the jets looking above you anyways, focusing only on the HUD will get you killed 90% of all cases.
as soon as you see a jet, try to get an angle on him. if he is really far away and barley visible, get closer but dont turn on your missiles. only when you know you have an angle on him, turn aas on, and fire right after you locked 2 missiles if you are in a fighter. In a bomber only use one since you only have 2 in total.
if you shoot right after the lock the enemy jet cannot flare in time anymore before he notices anything and your missiles will hit him almost every time. if you start locking from far away you have a high chance of missing since he will drop flares from the beginning on.
if you your opponent is a superior fighter I would even spam more missiles. I usually spam bursts of missiles on F15s or on MIG29s if I am in a F18 for example, just to be sure to get the kill, cause once you miss your first shot the enemy will start flaring and do all kinds of shit to dodge your missiles. if he isnt alone his buddy will be coming to help right after you attacked him, expect another enemy on your tail within 5-15 seconds after initial contact. so if you miss your chance in a inferior fighter abort and leave the mapborders asap. same goes if you are outnumbered in the air.
Also after killing a jet or doing ground attacks its important to gtfo from that area asap, because you can expect an enemy jet coming to that position immediately.
