Optimized Controls Layout
After couple of weeks playing PR it's time to personalize the controls for easier usage and I'd like some suggestions from those who customized their controls aswell. So far the only key I've changed is the Map key. Moved it to F, cause I found myself checking the map often and I don't need F to cycle trough weapons, been using mouse scroll for that. I use map zoom frequently too but that can stay at N I guess. Q can stay, it's much needed and at convenient position, so are E and T. Mumble is the biggest issue. For H I have to move my hand off the movement controls and for 0 I have to move my hand off the mouse. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
I've shifted my WASD to the right, and it become ESDF, now I have more buttons on the left, the same thing I've done with ARMA, but you'll have to take some time to get used to it.

That's not bad, not bad at all.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
Since BF2 voip is not used anywhere you can use B and V for mumble. Alternatively use mouse buttons for it if you have more than 2.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
Before I had a mouse giving me 2 additional buttons I swapped E, H and num0.
E became squad talk,
H = join/leave Vehicle
and num0 = talk in local (Not recommended when driving a 2-man vehicle eg. APC).
Now I got a new mouse however so I moved Squad and Local mum Talk there. This again gave me some space and I kept changing.
Since Im one of those many CAS whores (I might be unknown, however) I tried to improve my jet and heli controlls. Lets make it short:
Pull up (alternative) = SPACE
Look left (weapon 7) = Q
Look right (weapon 9) = E
Look up (weapon 8 ) = F
Circle weapons got removed (I didnt use it)
Commo Rose (default: Q) = ALT left.
Although it takes some time to get used to it I can totally recommend these controlls.
EDIT: You can also use the other map using the caps lock key. It however doesnt allow you to rotate but you can keep walking.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
F for squad chat, V for local. Moved M and N to two buttons on my mouse, much easier to open and zoom the map that way. Left Alt for TS3.

OK, this is what I ended up with and I like it so far.
Map - Caps Lock
Map Zoom - middle mouse button (scroll wheel)
Mum Local - V
Mum Squad - F
Squad Screen - moved it from Enter to Num Enter so I can hit it with my right thumb without moving my hand off the mouse.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
All right, this seems to work just fine. Restored default than made these changes:
Map - F
Zoom Map - V
Squad Screen - B (Enter requires to lift the hand from controls)
Mum Squad - left Alt
Mum Local - < (easy to reach with pinky)
Map - F
Zoom Map - V
Squad Screen - B (Enter requires to lift the hand from controls)
Mum Squad - left Alt
Mum Local - < (easy to reach with pinky)

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
I would recommend you get a mouse with a few programable buttons and then you wont need to fish around on the keyboard for chat keys

PS. "Forward" key is weapon 3 and backwards key is weapon 4, middle click is weapon 5, just have them programmed in my ingame controls to use mouse forward and mouse back
I also tend to use the squad menu (caps lock key) instead of the map key for looking at the map, unless I'm flying, espically if I'm a Squad Leader since you can also setup attack comands etc via it, as well as see the status of people in your squad with what kit they are using etc.

Wouldn't it be easier to reverse it? Leave space for jump and F for prone?vishuddaxxx wrote:the only thing I changed was F to jump and SPACE to prone

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
I had a bad habit of jumping out of helicopters/jets while I was flying so I moved my enter button all the way up to ''?'' and my local and squad chat are both on my mouse.

That E has made me fall out of moving vehicles more than once, I have left it for the random lol element.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
Go to mumble settings turn local up to 200%. Turn down effects volume within pr to 50 or 60% then local works fine in any vehicle.CAS_ual_TY wrote:Before I had a mouse giving me 2 additional buttons I swapped E, H and num0.

Re: Optimized Controls Layout
You can map your layout by categories on the keyboard. I use my old WASD keys for movement, but i've moved it all the way to TFGH so I have more keys to use.
My thumb controls secondary movement keys such as sprinting, crouching, and jumping while also having access to my Use and Drop Kit keys.
I use my pinky finger for communication and have Ventrillo, TeamSpeak, in-game VoIP, in-game Commander, Commo Rose, Squad Commo Rose, local, and squad chat all set to different keys.
My mouse controls weapon modifiers such as reloading, changing fire mode, and changing scope mode. All extra keys are placed to the right of my movement fingers.

Some of the keys I use for other games, but it let's me have the same keyboard layout in any game while giving me lots of options while minimizing how far my fingers must travel to do something.
The main idea is to always have access to your main movement keys while being able to fire at any movement. So your WASD keys alongside with your Primary Mouseclick. Everything else supports that.
On my mouse I use my middle click for reloading, since when I have to reload I won't be firing anyway. I use the two side mouse buttons for changing the fire rate and scope or iron sights. Works when you're in trucks and HMGs as well for changing your view. And of course the scroll wheel for zooming.
