OMG please lighten up some of the maps ....

Post by reddog0000 »

Now I know some young pups love hunting in the dark or half light, but this old dog finds some maps almost impossible to play ...

It's bad enough that the I have to avoid heavy tree maps, due to perfect X-ray vision of the AI, but now even in built up areas I cannot see s#### most of the time.

So just from memory ..

Assault on Grozny - too dark
Assault on Mestia - dim and too many trees
Fools road - tree paradise
Dragon Fly - a bit dim
Tad Sae Offensive - wtf
Vadso City - too dim

Oh and don't get me started on the 'new' mortars from god [or whoever ] - damn it, make then configurable...

So I end up mainly on urban maps

What's a dog to do around here ...

You really think the devs would change the lightning because its to dark in CO-OP?
You have in mind that this would also change the MULTIPLAYER?

Of course its the maps that are dark -- it does not matter if coop or multi.

If you play multi then all players has same darkness - but when playing coop / single player its only us dogs who cannot see ....

Some one posted on another forum that in some maps only a sky box needs changing, maybe, so if it's possible then maybe a few official 'brighter sky box' map options be added ..

As all the assets are already downloaded that should be 'easy' :? :

Maybe ...

You play only SP and never deployment or coop online?
If you play only SP you should modify your maps by your own.

The map options you want aren't really possible i believe.
The only way i know that the pr devs use for different daylight settings in a map is via gamelayer
(16/32/64).
Those maps are really big because some of them have a secondary terraindata.raw for night/dark maps
and multiple init_xxx.cons and sky.cons.
All that is controlled by the layer you load (16/32/64).

I am an admin in a COOP server, any map with alot of trees we avoid as unless the bots are set on very easy it is too hard to be fun. All the maps on your list except Vadso we don't run, unless people specifically ask for them.

I have had the case when playing with a mate who uses a fairly old laptop that he sees very little in the dark but on my monitor it's fine. Try using someone else's monitor to see if it improves, switch up brightens and fiddle with gamma settings.

PLOD : you have confirmed I'm not the only dog having issues ... :)

I only play maps with 90 or 80 difficulty setting and loads of AI so trees are a no no.

I have in the past 'fiddled' with monitor settings but that's a pain as it's map specific and I have no way of saving them so back to the desktop and yeeecck ...

Fastjack : interesting - do you mean that it's possible to 'mod' a map if it's only single player and there would be no online punk buster issues ?

I'm not sure if there are any 'non online' maps --- how would I know ?

No, Sir.

But you can clone and rename a map, making your changes and put that into your PR level folder.
Only requirement is that the clone have a different name so it can coexist with the original map in the same place. That wouldn't touch anything and you get no PB issues.

There existing some rexman tools here, to rename a map (look around here in the modding forum).

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Ohhh ... I did not know you could rename / add maps with no punkbuster issues etc

FastJack -
I just downloaded a map from the modding forum - test_airfield - then un-tar-ed it into :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Project Reality\Project Reality BF2\mods\pr\levels\test_airfield

So this dir contains client.zip etc as expected.

I run up PR start coop - local but do not see the map ---

Any idea on how I can load the map ?

woof

SOLVED EDIT --- "... maps aren't Co-Op maps, they will show up in Deployment -> Create Local."

The airfield testmap isnt prepared for coop / Sp sofar i know.

Here is a working link for the bf2 Editor Helper. The dropbox link here on the forum is not working for me.
BF2EditorHelper1.4 (Battlefield 2 > Tools > Other/Misc) - GAMEBANANA

Go into your levelsfolder and copy your favorite ai supported map with to dark lightsettings and copy it to your desktop (or make a workfolder on your desktop and copy it there).

I never worked with the editor helper to rename maps (did it with notepad and hexeditor) so read the workinstruction of this tool.

When you got sofar i explain you how to change the lightsettings, skydome etc.
