Its more about what plays better for you, no lods for me keeps my fps up around 90.

From what I was told, Having the box ticket should help stop CTD's when diving in CAS jets because the LODs for statics on the maps wouldn't constantly be changing as you dive and fly around. But yee

Yes it does make it look better because you're always seeing all statics at their highest detail.
RIP if your graphics card/vRAM aren't good enough though.

hang on, so you're saying that your GPU vRAM should be like about 4gb or higher and then i should turn on the No Lods option !?
im kind of confused here cause when the No Lods option came out and turn it on, i never felt like i had any fps drop..... !
and my GPU VRam is only 2gb !?

It's feature were made switchable on clientside for a reason.
Go and test, if it's better for you - then it's better for you.

No, just guessing I wouldn't trust less than 4 gigs, but if you are saying 2 works than thats great.

Wow, thank you for the replies guys (and gals), wasn't expecting people to be so friendly and explaining things in laymen terms. For some reason I assumed the forum would be full of elitist, condescending types.

And what does it do?

As far as I know it makes all statics on maps at all distances load the same Level of Detail. usually when you get further away from a building it changes quality levels, with this setting on it doesn't change.

Correct FFG.
The theory is that some modern GFX cards can more easily process the higher detailed objects, than their CPUs etc can manage switching of all the LODs and textures etc.
This may be true for some people's computers, but probably not all, and in some cases, even some of the best PCs out there migth not be able to manage it, and once my Frigate is out, you really do not want to be drawing it at its highest detail, which is pretty heavy, all the way out to 3kms away, with everything else as well.
Also worth noting the larger the map's view distance, the more importance LODs play, especially when they are well optimised for long view distances.

What's the tris count on the frigate?

Around 55k tris, not including the RHIBs or the Lynx, missiles etc, if you include them then its more like 80k tris.
To put that into context, a MBT is around 10k tris, so its like 5 to 8 tanks rolling around together

Old thread, but does LODS option as it stands currently affect texture detail or object detail or both?
