Why did the MG3 replace the HK21?

Post by Expendable Grunt »

This is a question for curiosity's sake - why was the MG3 given as the SAW as a replacement for the HK21E? It happened sometime during when I wasn't an active player, so if there was a discussion I did not see it (and search did not turn it up).

It was cool to have that visual continuity between the rifle and the LMG! And it definitely held more ammo...

Is it just because the MG3 is itself lighter in reality? Or is it just more commonly used than the HK21? A quick glance at The Wikiped puts the MG3 being more common overall, but about as common in the general region as the HK21.

I liked both (except for the tiny drum on the LMG version but such is life), just wondering what was up. Cheers!

Probably they are trying to represent MEC as Pakistan since their army uses both g3 and mg3........

Or the AR as hk21 and mg3 as mg.

But this question has come up before. Iirc maybe a bad model, of bad animations or something made them to replace it.

50 round drum model was available, doesn't look terrible with a scope, and the RPK ruins the 7.62x51 immersion.

It fits well with the imaginary MEC forces, overall its a very "long range" setup for the whole army. I love it.

Wasnt the HK21 basically a left over from vanilla BF2, so they had to replace it sooner or later?

IDF, France, Germany, NL and Britain get nothing on their MGs. The only people that should be running around with a scope on theirs is the US.

Why should MEC be running around without a scope? Its a F I C T I O N A L faction, they could be running around with lasers on their machineguns if some DEV decided to do so. But that would be totally random, and not fit in PR, aye.

MEC is like modern day WW2 germans, rifles with machineguns as backbone of every infantry squad, except in a modern setting.

Or maybe im getting trolled hard.
