COOP return to Main Menu Issue

My friend recently downloaded PR and got it up to the most recent version and when he launched a COOP map, he said that the loading finished but when he was about to select the kit, it forced him back to the main menu. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

He probably clicked ESC?
