MMORPG
I know we dont have the Dev Tools yet so we dont know what is possible, but wouldn't if be cool to have a massive battle that last longer than 30min or even 2hrs? This would be a good basis for PR. Also large maps thaat would like start the Allies away from battle and have them fly in via Heli and only be able to spawn off of squads...
This will help the teamwork and allow for a Pilot class... I was kinda thinkn BHD style where you assault the city that would have a distinct # of Players advantage... hmm i like the sound of that... Make some good friends too.

I've been thinking in much the same way but being the pessimist that I am,
, I've also come up against some problems with this concept.
In no particular order:
* what happens when part of your team has to leave the game for RL issues?
* Superhuge map, (World map?), not too sure BF2 can handle the size. On a sidetrack, OFP have HUGE maps and I could really see a gametype like this one one of those maps or all.
* The computers to run a big game like this... Most of us still run on midrange machines, right?
Plus a few more I've forgotten...
Even so, it IS an interresting concept. One I've been looking forward to since I played the first Delta Force. A game that really combines infantry, armour, airforce and any other branch you can think of AND REALISM!!

As I do play many MMORPG's, I see where you're going with this. However, MMORPG probably isn't the right word. Nonetheless, the only way to create something on that grand of scale would be to have access to a SDK. Which, as we all know, won't happen. Even if you play on servers with 64 people you'll often notice the FPS getting choppy and so fourth. However, adding RPG elements might be cool. Though, probably not possible with the BF2 engine.

i always thought about this, and the thing about having a certain number of players or whatever.
i always thought it would be cool if in games like CoD or other WWII games the russains would have very limited ammo, say some soldiers simply have 5 rounds, but have the russains have 4 times more chances to spawns or quicker spawns then the germans. things like that.
but as for BF2 and PR id love to see huge battles that last hours, hopefully, TotalWar decides to pickup PR instead of POE2, even though i really enjoy POE, i think POE would be much much better.

Actually, PlanetSide is an MMOFPS. However, it is made by Sony Online Entertainment (for those who don't know they aren't very good) and quite honestly, the game isn't good in general. There are many new MMOFPS's coming out. One in preticular looks extremely well, Twilight War: After the Fall. It's an MMOFPSRPG (they call it a XORG for short, Xtreme Online Roleplaying Game). It looks pretty cool, they're using the Half-Life 2 Source engine for it.Beckwith wrote:a battlefield MMO rpg would be cool but not possible the closest thing to an FPS/MMORPG about current day would probably be AA
In some ways, BF2 is on a more grand MMO-style scale. With the presistent ranking, stats, unlockable weapons and leaderboards it really adds and RPG element to the game.
I think it would be cool that the more you use a certain weapon the more accurate you became and the less time to reload it would take. Now THAT would be a real RPG element.

What might work would be: World of Warcrafts size, the graphics from Half-Life 2, combined with the freedom to go anywhere at any given time, wear what you want, talk to who you pleased, and shoot anyone in the face you disagree with. (*cough* GTA)
A MMORPG that actually HAS an RPG element in it, as opposed to WoW's massive letdown on that front.
Maybe a game about everyday life! Really, who needs a fancy fantasy setting if you could run around in an actual game copy of New York! Instead of metalsmith and all that jazz, why not gain ranks in something like "Computer use" or "Cleaning"? Now, however droll that would sound, imagine what COULD be done. Buying 12 gauges and rob banks, all sorts of stuff. The idea of having an actual online community SO immensive and well-buildt that it could be an exact (or almost) replica of the real world.
"Why not just go outside in the real world then" you might ask?
Well, that's no fun is it? You can't become a policeman just because you felt like it becoming one in the real world. In the game however, you can. Same goes for creating chaos and crashing cars though house facades. A realistic massive multiplayer online first person role playing game RMMOFPRG!

well i just thought it would be cool to have like, 300-700 plrs all playing at once. We would need some supercomputer xervers but you never know. Like next-gen systems are coming out now so maybe next-gen servers might be more availible. It would also be pretty good because no one has really had large scale battle like said above.
Also I belive i would pay to have 0 to a-little-lag servers that would host 700plrs dont you??

ok here is the real question, you want these enourmous battles... but will you pay subscirption for it?
i think also it would be far tooo chaotic, as for now im happy with things like total war, i just would really like to see bigger battles.

Anyone getting flashbacks of the World at War "Tournament" for Forgotten Hope?
Basically, they got hundreds of people to sign up, made a "world map" of all the different maps and kind of did it risk-style... your team (US, Germany, Russia, Japan etc) would start in its home territory, and the Commanders would decide to attach other territories, there'd be a 12-hour battle fought for it, and whoever won (by TDM ticket count) won that territory.. next week, they could advance again, so on and so forth. "Risk" style.
As far as subscriptions go, they had a system where you could pay to get in and choose your side.. but if you didn't want to pay, your side would be randomly selected.

Thats what I think PR should do, to an extent. They(wow or 21cw) kept track of everything on their website, such as promotions, ranks, awards, ribbons, etc. Since PR cant have ranked servers (thanks ea), I think a tournment style website developed would take care of that. It would be a lot of work, but imo worth it for the players who get emerst(sp?) into the game, and play it seriuosly.

I like the forcing of squads concept... but what you've said in your first post Scoggs, reminds me of a VERY LONG fight on Clean Sweep. lol So I guess that can be possible.
I'd like to see added gametypes more than just take land... complete objectives, assassination of the other Commander (where the team has to defend him)... a retrieval style... etc. THAT would be nice and I don't forsee EA adding anything like that anytime soon.

i know exactly what you guys are talking about, some of the Devs/Testers and myself have tournament expirience with these kinds of tournaments and i can say with a significant degree of certainty that something like 21cw or WaW will be set up for the PR modCobraPhantom wrote:Thats what I think PR should do, to an extent.
