On the 20th March 2003, D-Day for the UK forces (British Royal Marines) entering Iraq on Operation Telic, four Griffon 2000TD(M) military hovercraft set out on an unusual and dangerous mission. During this campaign these craft were used to clear mines and obstacles across a 200 meter wide lane stretching from 3.5 nautical miles from seaward onto a beach, this beach drying out to a 2 nautical miles at low tide.

Royal Marines use hovercraft to patrol in the Shatt al Basra, south of Basra, 2 April 2003. POOL
