Can this be played on an Official EA Ranked Server?

Post by AgeWrecker »

I looked around for the answer, and didn't find one.

Will this, or any other MOD, be playable on a "Ranked" server? Or will it be played on Unranked servers only.

Sounds like a VERY NICE piece of work!

i doubt it, they will on occasion run a server for one or 2 of the bigger mods but i doubt the rank system will take effect

I think the only way possible is somehow striking a deal with EA, but thats very unlikely, seeing EA sets aside anything that doesnt put money in there pockets. It would be neat if PR could overhaul the ranking system and have a more indepth system with a lot more ranks and medals

unless they were planning on storeing it client side which would open the door for hacks of all sorts itd be tough for the PR guys to store the stuff im not a big fan of the ranking system i think its more harmful than good, people are so stat obessesed, kinda takes away from what i loved about BF in the first place

I dont like the fact that people who buy the game before you have the chance to have a wider selectio of guns - so thats why EA did it to get an initial rush of sales.
Also its there stupid way to keep people playing when really all the weapons should be available.

Yea that what I ment by PR overhauling it, if they could somehow add the 21stCW type theme into it, with all the different ranks and positions, it would be great for teamwork. I dont really like the idea of stats to an extent where people base rape, spawn camp, and totally ruin the game just so they can show off their stats. But I do like stats for the fact that people like to see how their doin compared to everyone else and all the little individual kit, vehicle, etc stats just add to it.

Can Project Reality be played under EA's ranked system?

No. Nor can any other modification of BF2/Python. The reasons surrounding that decision stem from insuring data integrity. It would be far too easy for a mod team to tweak the scoring system and cause major discrepancies/alterations in what they already consider a serious stats collection system. It's all about controlling the data.

It won't be long, however, until we see non-ranked server side stats collection applications though. Who is to say this won't be a consideration in PR sometime down the road?

Yup, I see CTF servers for DC and such who make their our stats and put them on their website. I was amazed that they could intergrate it in. From how long you have used your medic/wrench to heal teammates to how many times you have knifed people. There will be no way to have the unlock system in PR, but you could have rank stats, purely on the website tho, not ingame.

I've played on servers that actualy had system messages of top scorers.

Things like
"Top Scorer Last Map"
"Top Medic"
"Top Engineer"
Would pop up with the players name. This was in the original game! I'm sure 3rd party stat systems will be available for PR fans/servers as well as other mods.

On my old BF1942 server I coded these real-time stats with simple Perl and PHP scripts.

As far as the Reality Mod - I have been looking into and reading about tracking the RM servers and having them report to a central server to track players. Is this something you guys would see as a plus or not?
And what's a 6-year-old doing playing such a violent game? He's never going to enjoy kickball when he's screaming "Wallhack" from 2nd base.

I see it as a plus just to follow you and your teammates stats of the battlefield, being able to tell the campers/rambo's from the team players. Things would need to altered a bit, if possible. Such as getting 1 defend point every 2 minutes for sitting there, patiently, defending a flag with your squad. And if the squad leader says "attack this flag", and you attack it and take it, you should get points for that. And the more teammates you have with you, the more points you get, and of course the more your teammates get. And not that the points go toward stat whoring, just points going toward overall teamwork. I know its really pretty far fetched, but its my dream damn it!

And Ive sure this is even more over the line of possibilities, but promotions should be talked about in the forums, or some other form, to where the players can pick who they feel is a good leader and who should be trusted you lead you into battle.

i dont like the hole ranking and stats system, it takes away from what made battlefield great, in 42 and BFV it wasnt about who has the most medals, unlocks or points it was about the simulation and the fight, if you want to rack up points and get rewards thats what 90% of the single player games out there are for BF is a Simulation not some contest for who can rack up the most medals

i wish theyd make the unlocks global and get rid of the hole stats and ranking thing, thats one reason im looking forward to mods so i dont have to deal with all the stat whores who dont care about the fight

I agree; it's not necessary to make every single worthwhile thing you do get you points. What's next? Points for spotting, points for picking someone up who's requesting a pickup, points for going 5 minutes without teamkilling or swearing or jumping when being shot at?

Hi new to this community, this mod looks really nice. Looking foward to the minimod aswell as the full mod.

To add a suggestion, EA is counting on MODs to make this game last. It is possible for every mod team out there, to band up, and tell EA.

"We refuse to create any mods for Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2: Special Forces, Until you let our MODs run on ranked servers. Or even give the community a seperate Rank server database for servers that have modded BF2/python files. This way it insures EA integrety and still allow the MODing community to use every feature possible."

or something similiar to it, If they dont, then screw EA. and make this mod for HL2. :D

Welcome to the forums. I never really liked HL2 multiplayer, BF2 has more possibilities in the means of air, naval, and land battles with vehicles.

Thanks.

Yea it is true, HL2 multiplayer will not be as great. And BF2 does offer more. The problem is, EA is being anal.

There is no real character growth, not like a Sergeant has better accuracy or more energy then a private.

I mean if they wanted Character growth, Then they are blocking the wrong stuff. I mean by that is.

Character Growth, maybe allow up unlock of certain classes, like special forces. I doubt there are any Privates in Special Forces. And im sure Private arent allow to fly planes or helos aswell.

Those things would be more of a "character growth" option including the unlock of guns.

Rangers have Pvts, Army SF have some Pvts, Seals dont but only because training takes like 2 years, same thing with AF Spec ops guys, Delta has no-one with under 3 years expirience ahd several deployments same thing with ST6 or DevGru
