Replace Patches with "Wound Hold"

Post by WingWalker »

Do you think patches would be better if they were made to just hold your bleeding as you held the button?

Personally I feel Patches are never enough or too much, and a little bit "arcade". There are also too many workarounds to use them instead of team working with a medic or squad. Also, you can not always be near a medic, and they don't always respond.

I think it would actually influence players to fall back instead of fighting to the death because they could actually have time to find help.

Having to click to "hold" the patch to "heal," to stop the bleeding out, like holding a wound, and being limited with a slow walk, would also severely limit your ability to keep on fighting...

... so none of this just drop a patch and keep fighting. Maybe you could stop holding the wound in time to take some shots if you had too, and it was worth the amount of bleeding out you would let happen.

In real life if I got shot... I would be totally done, run away, try to get medical help or go to a hospital as soon as possible.

This, I think, would mimic that a lot more than just dropping a patch to heal, by giving you an option to heal that takes you out of the fight.

I don't know, maybe this is too significant of a change to something fundamental in PR?

Do you hold a bandage on you after you warp it around your wrist? I don't think so.
The one POSSIBLE thing you can do to make it feel less Arcade is to have a tear and wrapping animation instead of tear and drop. That will mean that you can no longer drop a quick patch in the middle of a firefight as it will take too long. Another possible thing would be to have bandages only heal you enough to stop bleeding and not to full health, but I don't know how the devs will do that without buffing the health system (In my mind I'm thinking the quickest way to implement this is to stop bleeding at 2 full bars of health but if you get shot at 4 full bars you'll not bleed if your health doesn't go below 2 full bars which is kinda unrealistic.).

Also saw you mention if you got shot you'd run to the nearest medic/hospital. Assuming you're talking from a civilian perspective, yes do that! But from a soldiers perspective, in a firefight, the moment you decide to LEAVE you'd just get shot again. You're better of just slapping a bandage on tightly and holding your position behind cover until someone comes to help or until the firefight is over.

This games realism is perfect except for things being represented for what you can't see. Like Time delay for checking HMG .50 Cal and TOW. Same to how fast you pull out a patch after getting shot. Dropping it represents using it to stuff the wound, putting tissue where flesh was lost to help coagulation of blood in vessels, veins and arteries.

This will slow the bleeding giving you more time, more blood pressure. Sometimes if going into combat pre-staging tourniquets on your body ready to be tightened on all 4 limbs right away already on the limbs. No time for fiddling around to get out a tourniquet, open it, get it on limb. Sometimes it needs to be already on there ready to slide up higher above wounds then painfully tighten. It will buy more time and chance for immobilized soldiers to survive blood loss.
