Would it be possible...
Would it be possible to make a Karkand sized city map with most buildings destroyable? Or would it lag too much?

Rhino replied this to the same question.
Rhino wrote:this map [Helmand] is more or less a Proof of Concept on the idea of distructible envoirmants. As you guys can see, its the smallest size of map we can make (by defualt with the editor, i could probaly make a smaller if i haxed alot of code ).
these buildings are split into diffrent sections, so you can only blow up aprts of the buildings and not the entier building when you shoot 1 wall with a rocket, this making it really being so like the min amount of parts you can make a house with is 4 corners.
now saying that, the normal building only requires 3 lgithamps, 1 for each LOD. Now these sections require 6 each, as you have the 3 normal LODs, then you have the 3 distructible lods aswell.
now if you times 6 lightmaps by 4 corners, each house routhly has 24 lightmaps, where the normal stock BF2 house only has 3. thats a big diffren to perfomance so we will have to see how much we can push these statics into bigger areas, but my guess is that you will not see a city like this any time soon, with the BF2 engine anyways hehe.

I am hoping we can hehe.
Maybe not Karkand sized... but what I'd love to see is a HUGE map (4km x 4km .. so twice the size of the largest BF2 maps) with a decent sized village that was the sort of central objective. Would love it if most of the village was destructible buildings and that it was inaccessible to vehicles and had copious AA emplacements such that it would be very risky to fly over it with aircraft.
