Hi and Avoiding Friendly Fire (or causing it)

err...didn't know which area to say "Hi" in, but...Hi! Just started PR two days ago and loving it.

Anyway, I'm sucking a bit at the moment and I think half the problem is is that I'm paranoid of friendly fire and accidently shooting team mates. Therefore if I see a friendly on the GPS that's anywhere in my line of sight (cone of vision, whatever you want to call it) I really delay my fire when I see movement, triple check the target...and get blown away cos it really IS the enemy that's approaching me.
And to clarify, it's normally when non-squad members are in question here, because I can easily ask them if where they are...

On the other hand, when I've gone 'oh screw it', I've accidently capped a friendly (only to heal him since I'm normally a corpsman/medic

So... any advice on how to overcome this?

Holy your sight over the guy for 2 seconds. If a name tag shows up, it's friendly, if not, kill it.

I've been playin for 3 months ish and still TK like crazy... the only thing to overcome this that I've found is spotting them but even that doesn't work sometimes because it can take to long :\

if they are too far you can ID the uniforms, try zooming in on the minimap cause its quite accurate when you put it on "map rotates around player" setting.

If they are running away from you, ususally dont shoot. running towards you, or they look like they are trying to hide... blow em away. also helps to konw the maps. you'll eventually learn where the enemy usually attack from, so you can be extra wary of those areas.

My tips for this

1: Change control layout

WASD = Up, down, left right
Crouch = Num Pad 0
Prone = Num Pad 1
Jump = Right CTRL
Talk (Mic) = B
Primary Comarose = #
Secondary = ' (@)
Squad Screen = Home

Basically, like that, its a case of moving your little finger 2cm to press the spot option of the primary comarose.

2: Spot
Always spot - takes less than 1/2 a second to press the spot button, follwed by another 1 second to check your mini map.
If you are killed, then someone else will see the minimap and take the person out for you.

3: Stop
Take your time - if they are an enemy, so what, you'll get more respect for stoping and IDing your target and being killed than just shooting an TKing a squad leader who was about to put down a rally point.
Look at the enemy and see if it comes up with a name tag.

4: Know the colours
US = Light
MEC/China = Dark
Insurgents = Lots of bright colours (like blues, red)

Basically is a learning curve, a very steep one. Most of the models havent changed since .4, but when that came out, back then old guys here Tked a lot (but they deny it), so its nothing bad, just make sure you say sorry and try to take your time.

I had this same problem for a long time!

When you are with team mates study their outfit. Pay close attention to what they look like, especially at a distance. If your US shoot anyone wearing a red hat.

Lets face it....hover over your target for 2 sec....2 seconds is a looooooong time in combat. Last week I hovered over a person, nothing showed, I shot, first tk for the night. And people...<tap on the screen> I didnt do it on purpose. The number of individuals that have the mentality that I shot them on purpose are just paranoid, burnt out, get a life, get drunk, need a root idiots.
The first think I do is fumble for the apology key, when I know I have tked a teammate.
Iam playing PR tonight with a mate. Iam gunna tk someone. Iam gunna get tked. Shit happens....its a game. If it annoys you to the point you have to verbally abuse the player who killed you its time for you to take a break and play something else.
To the Dev's, can we get annimation in the game where if a person spews abuse at you for an accidental tk, I can drop my pants, bare my buttock and slap my *** in defiance?

Whilst I am not defending abuse, if you TK someone, even by accident, you can be assured that they will be slighty annoyed for it - so a mooney animation would be like adding petrol to a flame. Obv you dont actually mean it, but the point being is, say sorry, forget it and move on - then your the one not rising to the bait.

For the most part, as long as there is a sorry, people dont care. Fishwork tked me once or twice last night... and he was my squad leader!!! Didnt matter because he apologised. (I cant remember if it was once or twice because he apologised no less than 5 times hehe)

Not, that control layout is 1 hand, the mouse is the other hand. So everything is really close ... unless I have big hands?

Anyway, if everything is really close for 1 hand, then everything takes 1/2 a second to do, IE spotting (which was the point of me changing my controls like that)

I just don't get it in general.

You have your left hand on the WASD keys and the right on your mouse.

If Num1 is to go prone then you'd have to take one hand of a major control point.

Please explain Lothrain. (sp)

Well WASD and num 1 etc are at opposite sides of the keyboard.

Thanks for the advice...although your keyboard does seem...odd. Are you using a lappy or something? My @ and # keys are a long way away from my keypad <.<

But especially the color advice is something I'll have to do!

... ohhhhhhhh, I just realised some more confusion point. I am using the UK/EU keyboard layout ... you might be using some strange American way? Using Desktop keyboard, so basically pretend your cutting the keyboard in 2, it uses the right hand side.

So see the - (_) key, from there down to the NUM lock onthe Num Pad, make a rectangle there, and thats where all the keys are, very compacted for super fast button mashing.
