Second attempt at this, since the forum decided to log me out while I was typing, effectively eating my post when I went to post it. Anyway..
I had this idea a while back for regular BF2, but I think it would make for a better experience in PR. The scenaro of the map is a MEC or PLA armored division advancing on a US controlled airbase. On this map the US would have no armored support of any kind, so defense would up to air power and infantry completely, with the support of a few TOW Humvees. The map could be set in either the Gobi Desert for the PLA version, or any middle eastern desert for the MEC version. As for the general shape of the map, think Ejod Desert, only without the city.
There would be five outposts that the MEC/PLA forces would be required to secure ebfore moving on the airfield. Two first, then the remaining three, then the airbase. The rear three outposts would be near the perimeter of the airbase, on the side facing the MEC/PLA. The first two outposts would be roughly half way between the airbase itself and the MEC/PLA armored column's starting position. Each perimeter outpost would have one TOW missile launcher, one regular Humvee, and one mounted MG. The forward/center outposts would have two TOW launchers, one regular Humvee, and one mounted MG. Here would also need to be some kind of bunker or building at each outpost for the US infantry to take cover in.
The MEC/PLA base could simply be a road running through the desert that their vehicles all spawn on.
Now for a comprehensive list:
USMC:
-Airbase:
4x or 6x A-10
3x AH-1Z Super Cobra (or maybe Apache, once it is ready)
4x TOW Humvee
2x Humvee
-Perimeter Outposts:
1x TOW Launcher
1x Mounted MG
1x Humvee
-Center/Forward Outposts:
2x TOW Launcher
1x Mounted MG
1x Humvee
MEC/PLA:
-Armored Column/Road:
12x T-90/Type 98
4x BTR-90/WZZ51
4x Tungska/Type 95 AAV
I believe this would make for one amazing experience if done correctly. I'll leave more of the geometry and other features to more experienced mappers, but setting the map at high noon with an oasis sprinkled here and there would make for a oveall ebtter looking map. Spawn times on US air vehicles may need to be accelerated though. It would be relatively hard to pick out the AA vehicles when your HUD is lit up like a christmas tree from all the enemy contacts.
Thoughts? Comments? Please put some thought into this idea, I sure have.

Sounds excellent. the first thing i would do would be download google earth, and find a suitable spot in the middle east that fulfills the following requirements:
1) would make sense to build an airfield there
2) can reproduce in bf2
3) works well with the rest of the map plan
and base your map design on the layout of a real area.
also, id set this up in ME, works better.

I don't think its the A-10s that lag Basrah. I only get lag there when I try to go into the city, or face the city.
I'm open to any suggestions as far as vehicles go. I figured four AA tanks would be sufficient considering they would be difficult to see from the air, what with 20 target boxes popping up. However, I'm sure a couple more wouldn't hurt. AA kit soldiers riding in the top slot of the AA tanks would be a good idea also.
I do not have google earth here at work, so if someone could plot a location while I'm at work I'd appreciate it.

I wouldn't have so many a-10's, maybe some more cobra's to make up for it but those things are nearly impossible to shoot down. Whenever I flew them I'd laugh off the AA and even when I took hits it was never close to killing me. There have only been two things that have killed me and that's lag and me flying like an idiot and crashing. What I mean to say is that I don't think the solution is to give every other player access to some sort of AA but rather just lowering the a-10 amount.
Thanks luizinhuu for the find
