I think that the crewman kit should carry an SMG not an assault rifle. I think it would be more realistic, as crewmen are intended to squeeze into vehicle cockpits. What do you think?

I think that is on the list for new weapons being developed.
I'm pretty sure they were talking about a "shorty" SA80 as well.

Oh I know what that gun is, I don't know if that would be the best choice for the UK, because I read up that the SA80 carbine variant is rarely used in the British armed forces.

agree! anything to make drivers value their vehicle more instead of driving the apc straight into the cap zone.

The British will probably eventually get the L22 or the HK53, the US the M4, the PLA the current spec ops weapon the QBZ97 carbine and so on.
The MEC use the 7.62mm calibre which poses a problem (they shouldn't have the Hk53 at all - it's 5.56 NATO) so a G3KA4 (error? really stubby G3) probably needs to be modelled

Right, the US military issue their tank crews with the M4 carbine, because these days everyone in the US military gets the M4. Their tank crews never had MP5s, before they had M4s they had the M3 (Yes, grease guns.) and M9.

The British army issues the standard L85A2 to its tank crews. They were going to issue them L22s (aka SA80A2K), but this decision was changed and the L22 is now issued to apache crews.

The PLA I've no idea about, but I *believe* PLA tank crews used to be issued with the Type-85 so one would assume that when they switched from the 7.62x25mm to the 5.8x21mm they would have switched from the Type-85 to the Type-05. I'd say that PLA tank crews should either have the Type-05 or the Type-95 carbine.

The MEC pose a problem. 7.62x51mm + short barrel = lunacy. Arming them with the G3KA4 carbine or MC-51 ultrashort carbine makes little sense as I very much doubt that they are easy to use weapons that don’t require a great deal of training to use effectively. This makes them unsuitable for the PDW role.

Which brings us nicely to the P90. The weapon is used in the region (unlike the G3KA4 and MC-51) and is highly suitable for the PDW role, and as such would be an excellent choice for arming MEC tank crews with!

Yeah Marley is right bout US. I think Choppa pilots are issued M4s as well. Jet pilots are stuck with a Beretta. I'd think give MEC Crewman something like the AK-74U (The Insurgent Leader carbine)

Also, sorry lads... it looks like there won't be any M4s, L85/L22s, Type-05/Type-95s or P90s for tank crews because I couldn't spell.

Someone told me that chopper pilots use the MP5, and like you sad tank crew M4, but i don't know anything about mec or PLA

US army helicopter crews were issued MP5KA4s on a trial basis during Operation Gothic Serpent. Following less than satisfactory results it was decided not to acquire any more and instead seek a 5.56mm weapon for use by helicopter crews. They are (like everyone else in the US army) issued with the M4 carbine.

It's only 30 inches long with the stock collapsed. Not that difficult.

BTW, Bob, you'd have to ask Strima about the L22 and armor crews. I believe he once said that they do plan to eventually issue them.

My boys should be issued the carbine next year sometime, it will make life a little easier. The L85 is still easier to stow than the old SLR....
