But, the need for either the commander to zoom in and call out targets to Squad Leaders seems too constricting, and if the commander or the server doesn't have / doesn't allow VoIP, you're screwed for Birds Eye Recon that doesn't put a Sniper, Marksman, HAT, Spec Ops, AP rifleman, or Officer at risk for getting a bullet in his Binoculars. And even then, they need to get high enough to do it.
So, what I'm suggesting is this, some Americans may have an idea if they've seen the Army Commercials: Remote Controlled UAV. I forgot the name of the one they used, nor have I seen the commercial recently, written down the name, or had any luck finding the video on the Army site or info on that video; that and I haven't had any luck on finding any of this class of "Radio Controlled Air Plane with a Camera on it" that are in military service, but the idea is simple enough to be realistic, right?
My original idea was that it'd be a Request Kit (with restrictions similar to the Support kit's Numbers) that'd use a model similar to the AT, only with the Tube replaced with the UAV folded up. But the problem soon came up, how to pilot it?
Ideas to solve this are far and few, and I still can't think of anything that'd be effective in the means of a kit. But, if possible, making it a commander toy look-a-like back the at teams base that'd be based off of real world forward UAV launching platforms that'd have a player get into a fixed light vehicle control station, press a button, and launch the UAV which would work like a standard Air Plane only with a much lower speed and much lower required speed for it to stay in air.
Iunno, never tried modding BF2.
But then the problem arises that it if it was destroyed, would the player be killed, defeating the purpose of Unmanned Ariel Vehicle?
But, aside from the technical aspect, here's what I'd like to see when it is used.
1. Revive the Scan that the Vanilla UAV had, only shrink it to a 10-20 meter radius so the player using it could simply fly it over and enemy he saw but was unable to aim lower enough to Q + Click Spot him. But with it being so small, someone wouldn't be able to fly past an area and reveal an entire enemy Team in less than a few seconds. Also, like vanilla, the Radar style sweep would also be in effect, meaning the sweep bar would have to have gone over a target AND would only leave a temporarily mark so not to have a UAV fly though a city and mark every guy for the next few minutes.
2. Low required flight speed. Make it so this thing can't out run a Helicopter, but also unable to hover. And it'd be more useful if this thing ran slower since then you could spot enemies easier.
3. Able to be shot down by standard bullets. But make this a bit more powerful so one guy with a rifle can't spray a quick second and put this thing out of commission, nullifying it's effectiveness. But maybe 60 or so direct hits so it does leave the pilot some time to bug out before "click click click" of bullets then "BOOM" of it being shot down. Too small for MANPADs.
And that's it, what do you think?
