Something different.
An Idea nothing visually exciting.
Ground based mode nothing that flies.
3 control points on one map, secure the 3 objectives move to second map, lose second map move back to first, string together 3-4 small maps like this.
Could work with much higher detail/distance view per map being 1/4 the size.
Would make for some intense gunfighting and controls the gameflow better.
Possible? impossible? boring?

Do you mean with existing maps just cut down a little ?
Like Basrah would be 2 maps, then if you win, fallujah would be 2 maybe 2 maps ?
Or do you mean all new custom campaign maps ?

And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

I was thinking ideas for new maps, designed to concentrate the action.
Loose example follows
Map 1 - take dock establish base communications.
Map 2 - move inland to secure refuel/supply depot
Map 3 - armour arrives - push onto enemy stronghold/occupied city.
more realistic objectives and general gameplay. So a single round consists of 3 maps loading, stack the first map in favour of the assaulting team balancing the gameplay out by second map and final map leaning toward defence favour.
There is no reason why existing ones couldn't be divided up if 'no air' balance could be figured in.
The advantages for a mapper (Ive worn that hat before) is you can concentrate on the environmental details more (less area coverage), and gameflow better (more specifically) controlled.

we have thought of this a few times and its been tossed back and forth but never taken on by anybody for a few key reasons...
1. maps need to be made..perferably all in the same style..ie..one mapper has to make all the maps as our styles differ widely.. (medium problem)
2. how do we get the maps to change.. option a: coding..labour intensive/dont know if it can be done (big problem) option B: manual map switching...requires admin in the server at all times...(big problem)
its a great idea..nobody has yet taken it on... I am kinda working my way towards this with my next 3 maps which are a series of sorts...but not necessarily storyline although i am hoping they turn out that way...
I also dont like these one way maps...US attacks such adn such..GB attacks such and such..would like to see the Asquads get the piss taken out of them for a few maps...hehe
maybe you could help me out with storyline etc.... pm me if you are interested..you might be interested in some of the statics i have planned as well...

Possible solutions
1. The maps themselves would have a faster development time being smaller, it would be little more work than a singe map I would imagine. Divide map into 4, only using 3 pieces but more detail, should even out.
2. Maps changing, I am no coder and have no idea how to do anything in bf2, but there can sometimes be solutions to things not possible, one way maybe, jury rig the vote process for a map so it will 'vote' depending on who won. possible impossible.. dunno, coders are smarter than me, I am sure they can figure something better.
Maybe the hardest hit would be having 64 players all so close together on a map..
Anyway as I said just some ideas for the mapping guys here.
Ill catch you on voice IronTaxi soon.
