I had this happen to me twice today and i have no idea why.
I was playing PR on Mao Valley with my clan in vent. I'll be talking and communicating with them fine, but then i wont hear any sound. i'll talk and ask "guys can you hear me?" and then get no response, type it in chat, and get "no we cant", and then when i alt tab out to see what the problem is, my computer resolution has changed to like the 800x600. (my original resolution is 1024x768.
The thing is, When i open PR again, the background where the movie is, has turned to just a grey screen. I exit out of PR, and when i start everything up again, and then connect back to the server, it's like i never left. My score is still the same, and i believe i'm still in the same squad.. it's really weird.
Anyone else had this problem? and if so, what did you do to get to stop?

Well I dont know about your main problem (a wierd one), but the resolution problem is probally, your running your game in 800x600 and when you alt tab to desktop it keeps same resolution, try running game at 1024x768.
You should always run game same as desktop res or greater.

yea i run my game at 800x600.. but i dont alt tab out before that... and it usually works fine if i alt-tab out. This is just at a random time, i wont hear vent, and then my game will either crash out, or i'll alt tab out to see what the problem is, and my desktop resolution is now 800x600
if i change my game resolution to that of my desktop, will that cause my game to lag? all my settings are on low.. so i dont know what else might happen.

The Ventrillo problem is probally a Ventrillo problem lol. Do some searching on 'Ventrillo help' maybe. Try this link http://www.ventrilo.com/faq.php
No you should not get any lag by running it at 1024x768, in fact you should see an improvment in graphics quality.
What are the specs of your comp, Proccessor, Vid Card, Sound Card, Memory etc etc.
It sounds as if you have got a low spec comp if you have to run everything on low.

Well IMHO I would not turn off hardware acceleration (if you have a decent sound card) as this will add extra strain to the already stressed system resources. Turn on EAX as well if you have it.General_J0k3r wrote:my first shot would be to deactivate hardware acceleration/put bf sound settings to software, low for testing
Also you will be missing some very good sounds/effects from the excellent sounds in BF2.
But for testing maybe.

there can also be a hardware-sided issue:
2 clanmates had a problem with their sound-on-board.
They couldnt use teamspeak AND BF2-VoIP simultaniously.
It always was a realtek AC 97 chipset but ... i've it too and have no problems.
So try to download the latest sound driver.
If that wont help, buy a cheap pci-card.
good luck
P.S.:
Just dont use EAX if u havent got more than that AC97 ****
and
turning down the hardware acceleration IS useful.
its an old hint even for bf1942 and it works well on bf2
