BIG maps.

Post by Expendable Grunt »

I remember hearing at some point that the mappers where working on making huge maps for realistic air support (or something). I was wondering if those where still going to be in one of the future versions?

Well, is Al Basra really "big"? What's the largest map the engine can handle, if there is a true limit?

the largest POC map i have made would be 8kms^2, but you wouldnt be able to play on it unless it was all sea, I gave the battleships mod my 8km POC map ages ago and they made pretty good use of it :)

I've always meant to ask, what's the earliest expected release in which one of these BIG maps will be in?

v0.7, when we redo the jets :)

@Randleman5102, try using the APCs to set up a forward spawn point, and then you can use them to get really up close into the action and if the other team has done the same, you can exspect some really awsome battles! :D

be warned thou guys these maps may never come out due to bugs and we may only have maps the size of basrah for the biggest. we have not yet found any show stopper bugs with them yet, but there could be some...

a huge map would be perfect for a convoy type AAS.. I know now that you pick up the special kit and somehow it knows you have gone to the crash site and then the checkpoint and then main base with xtract, imagine a map with a long road area with say 4 vehicles, two supply and 2 tankers that all had to reach the checkpoints (and get the achieved type thing that there is now in extraction) before making it to the last location, of maybe a base in the middle of a city or urban environment.. the semi trucks from AF could be modified to drive with a trailer right? and possibly re-skinned to a more military type color? :D
