Editing of vBF2 models

Post by Top_Cat_AxJnAt »

Can vBF2 models be edited by mod DEVs???????

I have been told time and time again, it is illegal but i have seen atleast 1 mod do so. What i believe to be the most recent example is:

At the moment, i am extremely confused, are other mod editing vBF2 models illegally.
And if so what are the implications of this???????

Well, if they are, i am sure they have been doing it for a long time and it appears EA has taken no action. Why, possibly becuase they dont give a fuck about BF2 mods, if this is so, i see no reason why PR should not tweak a few themeselves, although i am sure you edited the LAV and the other APC's - am i wrong or.........<_<, >_>, should sht the hell up! ;-)

Maybe it's illegal, but nobody gives a shit, including EA.
I've seen a lot of edited vBF2 models in other mods, too.

Ok, to bring the tone of the 2 post thread crashing down, any chance Bosco you coudl edit the very vehicle in the screenshots of my orgnial post, you know the usal things people really want?

Just as seriously, will the DEVs stop telling us now they cant do it?????

An extra 50cal their, loose the rocket launchers, add a pair of googles ext. There are hundereds and thousands of possible changes, but a few adjucement on certian major peices of kit could really help realism and emersion and save alot of time, when compared to totaly re-modeling equipement.

Well...I cant see the problem with this as long as the appropriate credit is given, and no money is being made. We are doing this for Mare Nostrum (editing the german red orchestra player model slightly), and we have full support from them to do so.

This would save a lot of time, but then again it's illegal.

er.. that's not really editing the model .. it's adding in elements and changing others.

And frankly I really don't think EA cares as long as you are not attempting to re-purpose or re-sell the edited models.

if the mod is free, how could you resell it? If you have to buy vbf2 to play a bf2 mod, them you have already paid EA for their product. Why should they care if you edit their models when mods are free? do they want you to play vbf2 only?

Someone please tell me that the above is irony.

BF2 was made to be modded, why in the world would they care?

Its only illegal if you gain financially through an EA product mod.

The more and better mods there are for BF2, the more people who buy it and EA gets more money. So there is no chance in hell that its illegal.

What would be illegal is taking, say, vehicles from armored fury or any other expansion and putting them in PR without requiring the players to purchase the expansion.
