ok this is sort of related to bf2 i guess and to pr in that case, let me just explain fully.
ok, recently ive been playing 2142 after not touching it in a while, now when ever i load it up i get this message saying 'pnkBstr block or allow ' on my macaffe thing,
here is the problem, the way the punkbuster name is written is worrying me a bit, because im pretty sure they would have typed out the full name and not just without vowls.
ok so i pressed block and it doesnt look like it had any effect on bf 2142 so im guessing this is like what a virus or soemthing?
because i dont know how the **** it got on to my computer in that case because i havnt been to any spammy cheat websites or anything like that.
will this effect bf2 as well? like should i allow it to run... (is it the proper punkbuster?)
this never used to happen, i think it may be the 2142 patch or something or the issues with gamespy servers...
im getting something really odd... help please?

punkbuster would indeed use the full name, unless mcafee shortened it. blocking it didn't appear to have any effect, so the virus theory still holds.
secondly, you are running mcafee. try running trend micro. uses less memory and does the same/better job.
thirdly, put the virus and spyware protection on an external drive and dont plug that in when you are gaming, makes a difference, trust me.
anywho, sounds like a virus, do an update and scan, thats all.

pnkBstr.exe is the correct punkbuster executable, although it's only been around since mid-march, which would explain why you haven't seen it before. It is designed to run on Vista machines.
