Vehicle Resupply

Post by Evil Koala »

I was just reading the thread about tanks and how they respawn too fast and got this idea..

Make it so that each map has a few capturable flags on the outskirts of the map. Maybe near a road.. Then make a resupply counter, to simulate being resupplied from outside the battle. Then after a preset count-down has expired, a specified number of vehicles/types would be respawned, but only if a supply point is held, and they would only spawn at that point. Then the count down timer would be reset by the commander, who needs to request re-enforcements. This call needs to be done at a strategic time. Because if its called too soon, and no vehicles have been lost. The request would be denied, and another timer (a timer for the commanders request) would be reset, and a request wouldnt be able to be made until that timer has expired.

This would enable a team to cut off an enemy's supply lines, and allow them exclusive access to vehicles via control of said flags. Adding to the teamwork required, as a squad would definately be needed on defense.

You could even go further than that, if coding permits. Make the commander's job a bit like playing Ground Control. Holding a flag would offer so many points to "buy" resupplied vehicles. Holding resupply routes would reward you with even more points than regular flags. Then have a menu to pick what will show up in the resupply. A tank could cost 100 points, HMMWV for 40 points, LAV for 80 points.. whatever..

Of course this is only a basic idea, and the details would need to be worked out.. But I think it would add emphasis on strategy and teamwork.

it sounds good, but what if there's no commander at the time?

Excellent idea! It even gives the map designer a lot of other options and tricks to use, since the vehicles can be set to spawn anywhere in the map regardless of where the flag is.
