Opposition Extract map

Post by DarkTalon »

My idea is to have a map where Chinese/MEC have an extract mission, and the US/British have to ambush and destroy the target.
My idea is to set a map set a little bit east of Basrah near the Iran Iraq border.
where MEC forces are bringing a supply shipment to the insurgent forces. This map would be unique in that;
  • The US/British attacking the VIP instead of defending it
  • The VIP does not spawn immediately
  • The MEC can eliminate the Allied air threat before the VIP spawns
As you can see to the north there is a US outpost (UNCAP)
there is also a US airstrip with an assortment of lethal aircraft that could easily dispatch the VIP.
MEC layout

The MEC spawn in a semi-beached container ship (i understand there is already one modeled in the BF2 editor) the MEC have 15 min to capture the airfield (once it is captured the US cannot take it back, also it does not spawn MEC aircraft)
after the 15 minutes are up hopefully the airport is destroyed, and the convoy can proceed through the highway. if not, the A-10 and cobras will simply demolish the convoy.
Convoy
the MEC convoy will consist of a VIP (5-ton truck) escorted by 2 APCs and maybe a few jeeps.
they will have to pass through the village first and then find a way to bypass the US checkpoint.
after they get past the checkpoint they should be home free.
Allied Layout
At the start of the round the US/Brits can spawn at the outpost and get a jeep/APC to set up ambush positions or spawn at the airfield and get an A-10, one of the two cobras or a blackhawk/merlin.
they must hold off MEC forces until the convoy arrives, when the convoy gets withen range they will have to take up ambush positions in the village/checkpoint.
Image
(please excuse the crude paint drawing)
so basically what i want to see is an escort map where the US or hopefully British must take out a MEC target. also i want to see a well orginized first assault determine how the rest of the battle unfolds. thanks for reading
any other comments/suggestions are welcome.

Somebody please get this guy a medal! Very nice idea and well executed with the paint drawing! Must have taken some time on that container ship :D

Great idea!

I love this idea.

Now for a mapper to start it.

So the outcome of the battle depends on the objectives set?!

could be tricky, especially with the BF2 engine.

there hardest part would be getting the convoy to spawn at the right time (which we already know is possible)
as for the airport we just make it so it can be captured once and the aircraft don't respawn.
that way once the MEC capture it no more aircraft will spawn, period. also helos/a10 already in the air cant rearm/repair unless they land at the outpost and have an engineer/rifleman help.

but other than that it's a normal extract map.

I mentioned in the first post that it was a 5 ton truck.
edit: my bad i typed "5-10 truck" instead of 5-ton.

great Idea , though I don't like your map scheme ... better to make it somewhere in the mountains , ala Jabal Al Burge or Kubra Dam ... maybe less airpower for US .. or insurgents vs MEC

or it could be shiite MEC forces vs. sunni insurgents, although i'm quite sure the devs would never do that due to the subject matter. best just to keep it US/Brts v. MEC. just BTW if it was British there would be two apaches and a Merlin. I've always loved the idea of attack helicopters ambushing a convoy since the old game "Gunship".

nice logical layout, idea & presentation, & i think all the objective type things are possible with pr's code in future builds.

main crit would be the short amount of time (15mins) that mecs have to travel 500m+ over rugged open terrain (judging by the map) with overwhelming airpower on the opposing team, but i love the idea of having to destroy the assets that'll make the convoy's chances almost impossible. maybe some vehicles & multiple spawn points for mecs would even things out?

thanks for the comments, I was just using the 15 min spawn delay for the convoy to illustrate that the convoy doesn't spawn when the map starts, i just thought it was a reasonable amount of time for the MEC to advance and take out air assets. and as always if this map is ever made beta testing would find the ideal amount of time needed to give the MEC a chance.

Looks fun.
There'll be a battle royal in the built up area before the USMC checkpoint..... cool!

what would be really nice was if the truck was carrying a WMD so the USMC could not simply destroy it but had to imobilise it, secure the weapon and bring the truck back to base so that the mec can win even if they don't manage to secure the airfield. the Mec would lose the game if they destroyed the WMD and so would the american troops but nobody would be left would they if the WMD blew up. Also setting the map in a mountainous environment with lots of tunnels and hideouts making for nice ambushes and reducing the power of air assets thus giving the map better balance and compensating the absence of mec aircraft.

good idea, but the US can't drive enemy vehicles. you know how you cant see unoccupied enemy vehicles on the map, if the US were allowed to drive the VIP then when the driver gets out to repair/flee the little unoccupied vehicle symbol comes up on the map for all the world to see, and in a matter of seconds a squad arrives at the exact location of the VIP. to my knowledge the devs can't get around this, but that would be cool.

what i was thinking was that it wouldn't make much of a difference as if the driver were to get out that would probably mean his life was in danger because he is under fire from enemy troops who have already spotted the truck
