Insurgent Suggestion

I searched and looked at already posted thread and saw nothing about this.

With the recent questions many have been asking about what is going to replace the RPG gunner and Policeman kit I had an idea. I'm not demanding this or anything, just throwing it out there for discussion.

While one of the pickup kits in the game is the PKM kit, it is still not widely available or used. My idea was to add a kit containing the RPK light machine gun, that is already in vBF2(would obviously need its stats changed, but sounds, models, and animations are already in place) to the insurgent arsenal. It is my understanding that this weapon is widely used, and while very similar to the AK-47 already in game, could help to add another dimension and more possibilities into the game. The RPK has a longer barrel than the AK and usually fires from a 40 or 45 round box magazine or a 75 round drum (seen in vBF2) and fires the 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge( RPK-74 fires 5.45 x 39mm) thus it is lighter and carries less amunition than the PKM.

For in game application, this could either be a regular kit, or a pickup kit that is more common than the PKM. If the kit was selectable the spawn screen it would need to have limited ammunition and few other assets to offset its availablilty. If it was a pickup kit, perhaps it could contain ammo bags to replcace those of the policeman kit. The ammo bags could also serve several other purposes. It would encourage the use of teamwork since the RPK gunner would be able to both cover areas and provide ammunition and would provide the gunner with enough ammunition to provide a sustained base of fire for some time. He would obviously jeprodize his position by doing this so using the weapon would still require tactics.

So fire away, wha do you all think?

Interesting. But if it did get implimented I've no doubt we'd have people who try to only play as USMC moaning about how much firepower the insurgents have with thier PKMs and RPKs compared to the USMC.

I'd like to see it as a more widly availible pick up than the PKM, but I still have my reservations.

Might not be a bad idea, but are the devs willing to work on it?

We have mentioned the RPK (7.62 x 39mm version) on the Dev forums and here in public as a possibility for insurgents. :)

Sweet. Thank you.

Also in reference to people complaining that the Insurgents get another weapon: in reality the insurgents have to assigned or standard weapon. While there is an abundance of Ak and Ak variants (which the RPK is one of) they use what ever they can get their hands on that is most effective.

Heh, that would just make me  because USMC gets Cobras, A10s (not sure if they will be in Basrah in the next patch), etc...

But I do hope the RPK comes in! I miss that weapon.

I think its a bad idea, its giving pretty much any insurgent a limited support kit. if we gave them that all albasrah would be was support and molotov spam.

Its a pretty damn good weapon, packs a punch and is accurate for a good distance

Hence you take away the assets the other kits have if you make it a spawnable kit...

Speaking of weapons... Will the Bizon PP-19 (Anti tank SMG in vBF2) ever see the light of day in PR? It's an interesting gun and it would be fun use as as the Insurgents...

You could use IEDs as mines, but you'd have to baby sit until someone comes along

Actually, they do make a 7.62x25mm variant of the Bizon that uses PPS43 magazines. That would fit because one would think PPS43s are a dime a dozen in those countries. At least their magazines and ammo, anyway.

I like the idea of having the RPK re-introduced. I don't think it should be a standard kit though. I would think if it was a moderately available pickup kit that could work. Say one RPK per flag or one at every other flag. Just put them in logical spots and flags that are usually hotly contested.

Cheers,

What he said. An unlimited kit is a bad idea, but thats how the RPK should be implimented.

Its a bit... well... modern, isnt it? The PP19 only came out in 1992 (IIRC) and has only really seen service with Russian military and armed police units. I cant really see the insurgents getting them.
