Tank vs Tin Shanty?

Post by Alpha=Sniper Wolf »

i am a super noob when it comes to modding so i have no idea if this would even be possable but one thing that bothered me in the mini mod was how un destructable everything was. i mean im in a abrams tank and i cant run over a chain link fence, in fact i bounce off and take dammage...i think if u really wanted to roll with this it wold be amazing (oh and im talking about single player here, im still a 56k lame ***) if u could shoot something and have it collapse. oh and one other little thing, fences and low walls should be climbable, im sure our soldiers can climb a fence or pull themselves up a ledge. oh cant wait for the mod, little bird looks beautiful.

Ill second that Solo.

Anyways, first off, welcome to the forums Alpha. Im really not a professional but Ill give you the best answer that makes sense. First you make a model, say the T-90 in BF2. From there, its either a static object ( which is something that isnt really dynamic, like a building or a tree.) or if its gonna be something that is dynamic with animations and projectiles, which is the hardest part about modeling. Anyone can throw together a static object and put it ingame, when doing a vehicle, you have to make everything right in order to have it the way it should be, animations, the model/skin when its destroyed, etc.

Now for your actual question, first off its the engine BF2 was created on, it has nothing to do with this mod, that makes tanks stop when running into a fence or take damage when you hit a bump.

The more dynamic models/objects are, the more the resources weigh on your computer and the server. Therefore, the more you add in, the more lag you will get. Its definately quite possible to make objects such as chain link fences and trees get knocked over, just as long as there isnt too many to when it lags your system/the server.

Again, Im not the one to talk to about modeling and coding, but this is my best educated guess based on experience and reading about it. Hope this helps

Actually, the quote you made looks like something plucked out of a conversion at a palestinian dinner table.

yes that's right solo. i'm just a very active and creative community member. (who happens to visit the word association thread a lot... :p )

but seriously, the only reason i have 1000+ posts is because ive been registered for more then a year... a better way of 'measuring' this would be to look atposts/day.

and blake, ur post/day count is higher (or so it was in the old days when you could still see it).... <== OWNED!

j/k most of ur posts arent spam either so...

It's not spam. It's uneducational posting.

This is spam!

ON TOPIC!

Early on the guys at EA/DICE said they had tried completely destructable enviroments, and that they removed it because people would just level the map and ruin it every time. They never mentioned lag as an issue, but then again they never said it wasn't.

Later on in the mods development expirimenting with things like small tree's, bushes, and fences might be neat. But things like houses and such might be a bit over the top.
