But really, the map makes no sense, just look at it FFS :!: .

The city is bigger IRL....you dont say? Because you know i base all my geographical and cultural knowledge on what i learn from BF2. I cant believe they dont even have Yuorgos' persian map shop in the game WTF???? :!:
Kind of interesting pic though.

the map was scaled down to fit inside the map size limmits of BF2.... Check out EA's maps how do you think they make all there maps? Do you really think Wake Island is that small?

If we where to make the city real life size of the map, we would only be able to do like afew blocks of the main city, which would than make the name name be called "Basrah City" instead of "Al Basrah" as infact if you have done your research, you would know that "Al Basrah" is the region around basrah, asweall as Basrah City.

The airfiled is probaly pointing to the east to save space in the map, think duckhunt did it to keep the airfiled as far away from the enemy as possible, if he had it pointing south the end of the runway would infact be pretty close to the village, where the east has loads of open space.

The only map that I know that has fully be done to scale in PR, is the map I'm working on now, Muttrah City (v2) and I've had to alter much of the dock area to allow enouth space from the carrier from land, otherwise ppl would be running to the end of that dock area to snipe ppl off the carrier.

My main problem with Basra in game is the apparent street grid that it's built around. The real Basra does have streets arranged at 90° angles in some places, but if you look near the center, streets are going in every possible direction. I'd assume that'd be the case in more slumlike parts of the city.

I know that it might be easier to map everything according to a grid, and it's often the case that game maps are built around grids, but it'd be more interesting if it was a bit mixed up.

its very hard to build out of grids when using the stock statics that where ment for grids. I can tell u laying out muttrah 2s streets is a pain in the bum.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. It's easier to map over a grid with about every game out there.

also: i think its pretty lame that in PR we use a keyboard and mouse to move around and IRL we dont have to at all. i mean think about it: when you walk around outside, do you ever have a mouse and keyboard with you? no. so why do we use one in a video game? pretty counter intuitive IMO. also, in the game soldiers should have to eat things and find things to eat and sleep sometimes.

good post IMO fearosius.

Heres my first: http://realitymod.com/forum/t20661-jabal-alburj-in-reallife.html

Now back on topic:

Now, there is a big difference between the REAL Al Basrah and the one in-game. Basrah International Airport for one IRL, has its runway pointing to the south, not east like in-game.

The city IRL is MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger than the one in-game as-well. Most locations on the map are real, such as the Palace, Mosque and USMC Staging Area (Basrah International Airport) and Industry (Well sorta...).

You are talking about the 792x658 resolution, it's because it's only the part of googlemap he wanted us to see, not his whole screen ;)

And the only map with a "real" size is street, because it's only a street ;)
