Mature Gaming Players that Communicate
Hello, I am a 24 year old gamer who is just getting back into computer gaming.
I was wondering if anyone knows any good team speak servers or any good voice communication servers for that matter, where people can get on and like to actually communicate. I am not looking for a clan or anything because I like to play many different games. I basically just want to be able to go into a sever and no that people are going to communicate and that it wont be a lot of people running every which way. If even 3 or 4 people stay together that would be fine.
I just started playing the again about 2 days ago and I have been out of gaming for like 6 years. Thus, I am relatively new, but I am really just in it to accomplish objects and work in teams in terms of coordinating attacks and going for objectives. I am not hardcore in terms of I need to have as many kills as possible or anything like that. Team work and communication is most important to me. Even if we don’ t win the match, I still get satisfaction and what for me is my entertainment comes from working as a team.
I play a variety of games such as Americas Army, Battlefield 2: Project Reality, and Company of heroes. I have ArmA, but I can not get it to work on my computer for some reason. I also have Counter Strike Source and Flight Simulator Deluxe so if anyone is instead in playing those sometime that will be cool as well.
I know that Battlefield has a built in communication package, but I can not get my headset to work with it for some reason. I can communicate through it, but the return voice communication goes through my main speakers.
So if anyone knows any good Software Communication Packages, Servers with these functions, or is interested in playing please let me know, Thanks
B

Welcome metrb
nice to know that are people that think the same as me
teamwork and communication as a squad is something that attracted me to the mod in the first place.
I think the best way to get into good teamwork games is to join squads that you notice are playing together and have a good squad leader. Once you get going with that, you will start knowing the guys and could try to join the same games as them at the same times to play more and more together.
If you find me in the servers, feel free to join my squad
Didn't understand what is wrong with your in-game voip, main speakers, etc. If you explain it a bit better maybe somebody can help you out.
See you on the battlefield
(the 0.6 open beta one, not 0.5
)

I think he means that in BF2, you can't set a separate device for voicomms and a separate device for game audio. If you have a setup with two soundcard devices (such us when you have your traditional soundcard and a USB headset on top of that), you can usually set one device to play ingame sounds, and the other to handle TS or whatever other comm program you use.'[R-DEV wrote:dbzao']

This may sound quite simple what I'm going to suggest, but have you tried checking your default volume control to see if your mic is muted or anything like that?
I had some trouble with the built-in VoiP at first, but was so long ago I can't quite remember what the prob was. If you keep testing though it shouldn't be too hard to sort out.
Fiddle with the various volume settings too. When ingame, whenever you press your "speak" key you will see a small green speaker appear on the right side of your screen.

Welcome
My criterion for evaluating squads:
1. do I recognise any names?
(small community and you get to know folks who are good)
2. do they have a rally point up?
3. are they all over the place in different vehicles? Or tightly grouped in a logical set of vehicles?
4. are they using VOIP correctly?
5. are they using the in game commands & marker system?

Sure you've got your headset speakers plugged in? I often forget to unplug my speakers and plug in my headset. Though the mic is always plugged in, so I can communicate. Also, if you have both your speakers and your headset plugged in at the same time, the speakers may possibly "override" the headset.
And it's good to see some more mature, cool players. Welcome to the forums!

Hey thanks for the replys guys. About the mic.. I think I am just going to buy a USB one because the one I have now needs to plug into the motherboard (I have a sound card coming). But I want the headset exclusively for voice communications. I do not want any game sound going through that. Hopefully the usb head set will fix that problem.
As far as the squads go I will just get some games under my belt as you suggest, and maybe turn my volume up haha since I can't get voice coms through my mic yet. People can here me when I speak. I just can't hear them through my headset. So we will c.
About the .6 beta, will that require I uninstall .5?
Thanks again for your replies

I will be sure and check out that link dirtboy.
As far as the headsets go, I come from the xbox 360 where you can use your headset to talk and listen to your team mates, while the in game sound comes from the speakers.
Are you guys saying that I can not do this on the pc? I have tried the logitech headset, and my xbox 360 usb controller headset, and on each one the only thing that I can get to work is the mic.
Anytime a player talks it still goes through the main speakers and not my headset. I don't really want to have in game sounds going through my headsets because I want it just for communication.

I just wanted to add something to this conversation sorta on a side note. Im planning on gettin VOIP up and running before .6 comes out and ive been wondering about something.metrbmanmax wrote:

If you use your mic just for communication, when you talk wouldnt the in game sounds that are comin through your main speakers get filtered in through the mic? To me that would cause a lot of background noise when someone else in your squad is listening to you talk. I just know in the past when im in squads and the occassional person would speak, i can hear alot of gunfire, radio comms etc in the background. It just sounds messy to me.
I dunno if my theory behind it is in anyway accurate as ive never used VOIP on any game before. I want to make sure what im saying is right as when i play I think i want to have all sounds, comms and in game noise coming through my headset.
If anyone can clear this up for me id be most grateful
Cheers,
Wazza

depends wazza. Most people use headsets which are headphones and microphones in one. With these you get no background noise because obviously you're listening through the headphones and mic isn't near it.
With a normal stand alone mic then, yeah, it's very likely you'll get background noise. All depends on how loud your sound is and how far away your mic is.
Headsets are much better to play this type of game with though anyway because it not only gives you a much clearer/accurate idea of where sound (ie. gunfire) is coming from, but also immerses you in the virtual war far better than speakers can. Though I don't have surround sound so I can't vouch it's better than that
I'd highly advise using VoiP for a game like this though. It's really needed. Even with all the command options for team talk built in, this is the type of game that if you stop for a sec to type you're a dead man.
And you'll find you'll need VoiP often to warn team mates of incoming enemies, which is near impossible when having to type unless you know everything by the back of your hand. And also things like warning about snipers that you can't manage to get in your sights to use the "spotted" for.
As it reduces the need for the built in team talk you can focus more on moving and shooting when needed rather than having to fiddle with the chat menu. After all, you can't really instruct your team mates to flank here and there with that menu or even warn dead team mates about enemies approaching spawn positions and rally points.

I have a 5.1 surround sound setup and never use it now that I have some decent headphones. They give me superior sound and sound location. I have a cheapy mic that I just throw on. This setup works great for me vs. speakers. My mic is not usb it plugs into the sound car mic hook up and the headset through the speaker volume control.
