file download problem

Post by baptist_christian »

when the download for PR 0.5 finishes, it asks you to run it right? well, after I tell the computer to run the software, it just takes forever to verify it or something

is it supposed to take this long?

sorry for spamming you guys. I was just afraid that the thing might just be stopping, but I dont think it is because my HDD LED on my case is constantly on, so this denotes some sort of activity

I hope to see you all as I play this mod

It depends on the speed of your machine. What I've noticed with Windows XP over the years (and possibly Vista, though I wouldn't know) is that if you download an executable (.exe extension), especially if you download it with Internet Explorer, Windows will take some time to examine the entire file and then ask you if you're sure you want to run it. With a huge file like the PR installer, this can take some time and would depend on your hard drive and CPU speed. Add to this any anti virus software you might have running that will also be trying to examine the file, and I've seen it take upwards of 3 or 4 minutes between when I click to run the large file and when it actually opens.

Hard drive: SATA 7200RPM western digital caviar

Is it a windows installer problem? See if other installers work, if not, its likely a problem with .net 1.1

best bet is to use fileplanet download manager I found. I never download anything through IE unless I really have no choice. I'd rather use getright or sth than rely on it to not die downloading a big file.

I'd never advocate using IE either. Firefox is pretty good at handling large files on its own, but with the proper add-ons in place its all you will ever need for a download manager.
